I just reinstalled all my operating systems(98se/2k/penguin) and quake just doesnt seem as fast as it did before.
settings i usually run at:
"high quality"
except binlinear filtering and 16 bit textures
What is the fastest driver combo for quake 3 in 98 or 2k? I noticed a bit of strangeness this morning when i set out to try and fix the problem:
using the powerdesk ICD, i was getting 46 fps.. so i decide to go for speed and switch to 16 bit color mode. Drum roll please... now i get 47 fps! oh joy.
so i switch to turboGL, (1.3) and it goes up to 52fps. which is nice and snappy (and the same speed as my friends v3 on an athlon 650. heh heh) The problem with this is that i can't alt-tab in turboGL (which is a fabulous feature btw.. all my friends are jealous) and every so often turboGL just gives me a flickering screen and i have to ~ /quit to get out of quake. then reboot to get it to work again. grr.
Why does everyone say the standard powerdesk is faster? Seems the other way round to me.
I have a bp6 (see sig for details).. are there any drivers that i need to install (agp/etc?) the only non-win98 drivers i have on there are powerdesk, the udma/66 drivers, and the vortex reference drivers. (a3d sounds so good, but it takes 10fps from me. grr.)
