16 Mb G400 Beats GeForce DDR in UT

As a "Hard Core" UT player I struggled with the descision to upgrad for better FPS and visuals. My old system featured a Celeron 300a/450 with 2 Voodoo2s 12megs SLI with a G200 for 2D. I really wanted 32 bit color so I did some homework. Here's what worked for me. I bought an OEM G400 16MB Dual head at gogocity for $105..a PIII 500e at my local Frys for $239. My Abit BH6 lets me run the PIII at 667mhz so I can push the G400 a little. Total cost with slocket was $364-140*
(Sold Voodos on Ebay!) =$220 plus a faster overall system!

I just ran UTBENCH.DEM

800 x600 32bit = 36.2 FPS Pretty OpenGL
1024x768 32bit = 34.6 FPS Pretty OpenGL

This beats a comparable GEForce DDR!!

This "CHEAP" card is AWESOME!

Note: I have OC'd the g400 to G147/M196.

Puh amazing fps scores! I also bought an OEM version of the 16 MB DH G400. And I also bought an 500MHZ Celeron. Very cool and cheap system as well. But what I am wondering about is that your fps scores are OpenGL scores. Have you really run UT in OpenGL mode? I always heared that OpenGL is totaly unsatisfactionary. So what drivers are you using, ICD or TurboGL?

Good question.

I'll assume it's Turbo that's doin' the work.

I have the TurboGL 1.30 installed in the UT/System Dir and I start UT with "OpenGl" as my graphics adapter.

ok, #1, unreal is best with d3d and this is also true with the g400....
so im guessing that u are using d3d cuz that would explain it because the g400 has lackluster ogl(i wouldnt know cuz i cant get friggin tgl to work)

G400 is faster than a 32MB DDR Geforce??...
and in OpenGL??...I thought this forum was
one of the more informative ones but I guess
