Dismal performance with G200

Hello everyone
My Matrox Millenium G200 LE (8 MB) is giving very low scores in 3D Mark 99 Max (Demo)- only 2400 ! (800*600 at 16 bit colour)This is definitely low compared to others' scores(with similar confgs).Disabling Vsync brought down the scores even further! I didn't change any other settings.I am on the latest drivers (PD 5.52.015)and the latest vbios (2.6-20)Any suggestions on what I can do to improve this abnormally low performance.(without overclocking)

My system confg.
P-3@450, 64 MB PC 100 SDRAM
Acorp i440 ZX m/b, 64 MB AGP aperture(changing it didn't help)
HDD-Samsung 4.3 GB
G200's IRQ- 11 (shared only with IRQ holder for PCI steering)
Win98 with DirectX 7
I've also installed the latest updates for my motherboard.

Make sure that you shut down PowerDesk before running 3DMark. Ctrl-Alt-Del, end task on Pdesk.exe. You may also want to try dropping back 5.41 or 5.30 and see what scores you get with those. Try also turning on and off 32bit zbuffering in the display control panel(properties, advanced, options I think it is).

Hi,
I can't remember my non-o/c (and o/c!) scores with 3D Mark99 You may want to search the archives for ideas and some of Maggi's earlier posts for tweaks and tips when he had a G200 as he had one of the fastest ones around.

Why don't you want to overclock your card? Mine has been fine o/c'ed since day one almost 18 months now and seen a healthy performance boost.

Thanks a lot for the links Maggi:-)
But I am not too sure about overclocking my G200 coz it has no heatsink on it (LE version)O.K. that can be taken care of but in general my system already runs under hot conditions,so cooling will be difficult.
My graphics RAM is SD and the 32 bit z-buffer is disabled.But thanks everyone for the tips.Btw,many people are reporting problems with the latest drivers and the G200.So would it be a good idea to shift to the previous drivers?

Hi Ovi,
Got no problems with the new drivers for my G200. Give them a go. If they suck with "your setup" TM , you can always run the Matrox Uninstaller and use earlier drivers.

As to your system temp why don't you take a drill to your case and mod it. If you check earlier threads you will see some of the neat hack jobs that have been done help with o/c'ing. Besides, it will help the rest of your system.

Reading that you don't have a heatsink let me think you have one of the late G200s that are produced in .25 micron technology was .35 micron before).

Grab yourself a heatsink with a fan and let that puppy fly !!!
