Do you play Shogo multiplayer? I am Ozymandis[gXs], one of the "decent" players : ). The Shogo community is still VERY alive and well, and you can find a server with people on it on Gamespy pretty much 24 hours a day. Shogo is probably the most fun sp fps I have ever played, but DNF will of course be better. BTW, the g400max is the best Shogo card around, Voodoo3 is too washed out, and the GheyForce has compatibility problems with Shogo in some systems. I get framerates on my system in the 50's at 1024x768, not too shabby.

Well, I "upgraded" to the final 1003. It did not remove the "EB". However, my Quake3 scores dropped 20 fps. Uninstalling and reinstalling the VIA drivers did not help.

Usually, after upgrading my BIOS, I reinstall Windows. I didn't this time, but it looks like I'll have to. This gives me the opportunity to install the new ATA66 Hard Drive I just bought.

I have to say, dealing with this board has bordered on an infuriating experience, and I have a lot less invested in its success than most users. I'm just testing the board for an article, but if this was my primary system, I'd be pulling my hair out right about now.

There's a new article on Anandtech which confirms my worst fears about the P3V4X. The folks at Anandtech spoke with some Asus engineers, and the performance problems with drivers newer than the 4.17 pack are related to a driver incompatibility issue and will *not* be fixed with a BIOS update. This means Asus won't be supplying the fix. VIA has to.

Let's hope this is a minor issue that can be fixed in all upcoming releases. The last thing we want is a situation where VIA has to write special drivers for the board.
