  • TurboGL 1.3

    Hi Fellow Matrox users,
I've been trying to use TurboGl and once I have it detect any OpenGl games, it just drops the frame rate. The Quake 2 dropped from 76 fps to 45 fps. I uninstalled powerdesk using the uninstall utility and go through the installation process. Same thing happens. The Quake2 drops from 75 to 46 fps.
Please help! I heard that this TurboGL really rocks but I can't get mine to.
    System Specs:
    Asus P3BF bios 1005 001
    Pentium 3 600E (Coppermine) not o'clocked.
    128 MB Micron PC 133
    Matrox G400 dual head
PowerDesk 5.52 (the latest - I've had problems with 5.50 too!)
    IBM 13.5 GB hard drive
    Plextor 8x4x32 CDRW
    TBS Montego Sound card
    3Com 56k modem

Thanks to all of you for the help!

Don't bother with the TurboGl. The newest Powerdesk drivers is nearly as good without TurboGl. I had only trouble with TurboGl, with the newest drivers there are no trouble at all, and they run smooth!

Something funny is going on. I've looked over Tom's specs, and I don't see a thing that might cause such a slowdown. I'm assuming from your score that you're running Quake2 at 1024x768. The new ICD can actually be faster than TurboGL in resolutions above 800x600, but not that much faster.

Did you have a Voodoo board in your machine at some point or another?

Did the 5.50 betas work well for you? I found the 5.50 ICD works better in some cases than the 5.52 ICD.

This is just a shot in the dark. I have no idea why this would be a problem with TurboGL and not the ICD, but are you sure Vsync is disabled? This can be done either with Matrox's tweaking utility or a registry hack.

Both can be found on the MURC in the utilities section.

Hmm.... you could try updating the bios for your asus mb... it looks like the bios you are using is a beta version. But then again, I don't really know how that would've affected your tgl performance.

Do you have DirectX 7 installed?

Yes, I do have DirectX 7 installed. When I ran Quake 2 before TurboGL 1.3 with 800x600, I got 76 fps. After TurboGL with same resolution, I got 45. I ran it three times and got the same results. Also, when using Powerdesk 5.50, when I quit an OpenGL game, I get a BLUE SCREEN. Powerdesk 5.52(the latest) works great with me and I got 76fps in Quake 2 without TurboGL. I guess I just have to forget about TurboGL . . .
Thanks for all of your replies. : )
