  • The agony!!!

    Hi there.

Random crashes seem to be a constantly returning topic with G400 card drivers, and i'm really getting sick and tired of it!

Normally the drivers work fine, but after about a month games start to crash after playing for a random period. D3D titles do crash, but simply reinstalling the drivers always works for me. The major problem is turbo/openGL. I have been playing halflife (again) for more than a month now, and Q3A for about 2 weeks, and now all of the sudden these games crash in 2 different ways. The game either crashes instantly, and starts to draw green vertical lines on the screen, or it hangs after [random] min. I've reinstalled the drivers about 3 times now, with and without the use of the pduninst utility, but i still get no results. Also, it doesn't really matter wether i'm using Turbo or openGL....The latest (extremely weird) error i got happened in Windows itself. First of all, whenever I tried to maximize (internet)explorer it crashed, showing some random-color-dotted lines. When i closed the program, EVERYTHING started to show random dotted lines, and all of the colors were totally screwed up. Processor usage went up to about 200%, and Windows was able to run about 1 line of code PER MINUTE!! This problem has now gone away, but since it's gone away by itself i don't really trust this...It sounds like i'm overclocking the card, but i'm not. I'm not overclocking anything. If anybody out there has got an answer, please reply!!

    Here are my specs:
    Intel P3 450MMX
    DFI P2XBL mainboard (i440BX chipset)

    8.4 GB UDMA66

Might be Windows itself, for I experience exactly the same with some applications and D3D games. I don't reinstall my drivers, but defrag my hdd, use some scandisk, repair my VxD files and use msinfo32 (from the start->run menu), then Extra, then Check Systemfiles, if something odd is going on.

This will usually repair my Windows enough to let it crawl on to the next time it starts behaving strange

    Just my 2 eurocents

I always leave the light on

you always find me by the phone.

My friends tell me that I'm lucky,
now that I'm living on my own,
and while they've never been more right,
can someone tell me when will love come home?

Thanks for the reply. I've solved the problem by installing the latest TurboGL. Now it seems to work all of the sudden.... Anyway, i've done a little cleaning on my system (had about 6 GB of bullcrap and it did result in faster performance and more free recources. You should try SciSoft Sandra. It looks at all of your BIOS and Windows settings and tells you what you can do to optimize performance. It's one of the best programs i've come across lately.
Regarding the driver problems, i guess it's just a matter of installing, cleaning, uninstalling, reinstalling and rebooting 10 times in a row....
