  • Marvel 5.41 drivers vs. Mill 5.52 drivers?

Why are the drivers for the Marvel so far behind the drivers for the Millenium and MAX cards?

I've got 5.41 on my system now. What would happen if I were to install the 5.52 drivers? I mean, it *is* the same chipset and stuff, right? Or would it seriously **** some shit up?

I guess we have different definitions of "so far behind." PD 5.41, not counting the beta, is one release behind PD 5.52.

Before Matrox certifies a driver set for the Marvel and the Rainbow Runner, they have to be sure the drivers work properly with Video Tools and the other software that ships with the board.

The PD 5.52 drivers, I think, are a little buggy, and a number of people have reported problems with them.

Are you having an issue with PD 5.41 drivers that you're hoping the 5.52 set will fix?

They work just fine with my G400/RRG combo, in fact, I experience no problems whatsoever.

nah, no issues with the current drivers - i just want the new display driver that rivals the TurboGL performance.

I have the Marvel G400 and am running the 5.52 drivers just fine. :-) THey work great with everything. So go ahead and install them, at least I would. Good luck. By the way, on my 466@525 Celeron and 128mb of ram, Half-life is damn smooth with the turboGL.

I'm not quite sure it's a good idea to advise people to upgrade to the 5.52 until we know something about their system specs. The truth of the matter is that there *are* issues with the 5.52 drivers and certain configurations--and this goes beyond RR/Marvel compatibility.

If he's using a non-Intel chipset, he's probably better off sticking with the 5.41 drivers. If he's using a nice BX board, then it's a different story.

Ok, let me reiterate on my current setup. I have the Marvel G400, version 1.52 Video Tools, 5.52 Drivers. This is along with my SB Live! (Value if that matters) my 3com 3c905B NIC, an Asus P2L97-S board (that's an LX board with SCSI) I have a 466mhz Celeron O/C to 525mhz. 128mb of ram. Oh yeah, Bios versions. 1.5 for Marvel, 1010 Beta 1 for my Mother Board. and I have an Ext. USRobotics Sporster 56k, and a VC Quickcam.
That's my hardware, and I know the one problem I have is not video driver related, but hardware related. My computer will just lock solid, randomly...the power won't turn it off, but the reset button does work. I noticed that it happens more frequently when I use my QuickCam, but not always. Of course it could be a motherboard problem, seeing as my Bios is beta. but I have to use that one, one of the previous betas I've used had a buggy serial port (which I need for my modem) and I have to use the beta 'cause my LX board doesn't support the 466 processor without the bios upgrade. Any ideas? Only thing I can think of is to wait 'til Asus puts out a better working bios. I'm pretty sure that the problem started mostly when I got my new CPU (I was running a 266@300mhz for the longest time) Also I had a power supply fail, and this is the second motherboard like this I've had that when that happened, my PS/2 port went out for my mouse. (So I now have a USB mouse, which I had fun with getting to work in Linux) This problem I have has happened in Linux as well, though only once. And Linux doesn't support the VC Quickcam, so I don't know if it's that or not, it's still connected of course in linux. I've narrowed this down to three most likely candidates, my Motherboard Bios, My overclocked CPU. Or my SBLive doesn't like my overclocked bus speed. Any Input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for ypur support. Oh, and I know I went WAY off topic, sorry. Any information I gave about my hardware setup to the original poster and anyone else I hope will be useful :-)
