I also had this problem after upgrading my PII 400 to Athlon 650 with K7V.

I tried various method. Likes removing TurboGL and installing different version of the VIA 4-1 driver. Finally i fix it by reverting back to Matrox 5.41 driver.

Right now...i running wif this config

Athlon 650
K7V
DirectX 7.0a
VIA 4-1 4.20
Matrox 5.41
