How to increase frame rate in NFS5 ?

I noticed that the game jerks when there are many cars or lots of background details.
Assuming default option settings for the game, G400 and BIOS setting, how to optimize G400 to run faster ?
I tried running G400 at AGP 4x but no difference.

There was a thread about this already, do a search.

Changing that one byte in the dx7z.dll meant I could now play at 1024x768x32 just fine.
World Detail is set to High, Lens Flare and Sky Rendering is off but the rest is set to the highest setting possible.

I did that change for the dll file
but it didn't help. Framerate is still
abysmal in NFS Porche demo using G400...
It is fast when using my Voodoo2 SLI
but quite ugly.

Other specs are 350Mhz P2 192Mb RAM
