Dimitri, what setings are you using in UT? 24 fps how? Average timedemo statistics or some benchmark?

Oh and one advice: Uninstall AMD IDE drivers and install win98 IDE generic ones (with DMA box enabled, it´s disablem by default). Win IDE drivers are faster.

I have read so many posts here saying to get the G400 on an IRQ by itself. There may be a possibility of a performance hit when sharing an IRQ? Maybe someone can answer that.

And yes, how are you getting your stats. Disabling dynamic lighting will net you faster fps.

Ok, I have EVERYTHING that I can get enabled (I can't get into the advanced properties cause the stupid game won't go minimized - that weird memory error I posted about before). It's strange though. I'm using the fps counter that is built into UT. In 800x600x32, I'm getting 24 fps !?! and in 1280x1024x32, I'm getting 31 fps average. WTF!?! As far as I know, dynamic lighting is on. I don't really care about the numbers, but every once in a while (with like only sometimes only 2 or 3 people on the screen) it gets really choppy and the counter says like 15 fps. I know that isn't right cuase I hear everyone saying the G400 has one of the highest min frame rates around. I'm confused.....

Thanks for your help. Keep those ideas rolling.

        Dimitri

P.S.: Xippo, someone suggested that I keep the decoder and the G400 on the same IRQ. I'm not using it for an output though. It's just got a cable from the 2nd head to that. Nothing outputted and I'm not using the DH features either (I don't think). Hmmmm I'll check. lol

How about any other games other than UT? Just trying to figure out if it is UT or your system. Opengl or D3D? Have you tried reinstalling DX7? I don't know Muad'Dib, just throwing ideas...

Can you disable the decoder card so that the G400 will be on an IRQ by itself. Then try UT to see if better...

Yes, please do move the Hollywood card to have its own IRQ or remove it from your system. Perhaps you can disable one of the com ports to free up an irq?

One other tip: make sure that dual head is disabled.

Ok, dual head is definately disabled.

I'll try moving the decoder card and see what happens.

I'm running my desktop at 1600x1200x16 at 75. I don't know what the game is trying to run at. I don't know if V-Sync is enabled or disabled. How do I check?

              Thanks for your prompt replys....

You can just disable it in the device manager for testing. No need to shuffle things around - just disable it. Try UT to see if it makes a difference once the G400 is on it's own IRQ.

I doubt that V-Sync will make much of a difference, especially at such low fps. The G400 Tweak utility will tell you if V-Sync is enabled for Direct3d. I believe each game has it's own settings (enabled/disabled).

hehe, I got the word from my roommate. lol.

Anyway, I tried with both the dynamic lighting on and off and with the decoder disabled too. I'm getting 32 fps at all these combos. Also, without the decoder, it starts getting choppy about every 15 sec or so. No matter what is going on in the screen. I reenabled the card now. I was at a loss for ideas before, but now I'm really lost... hehe

                    Thanks everyone,

                    Dimitri

                    ***UPDATE***
I tried these tests with super bypass both enabled and disabled and there was no difference. 32 fps average all the time. No choppyness this time though, so maybe I just had a program open I didn't know about. Keep those ideas coming please.

Unreal Tournament with the G400s and I think in general chugs on 32bit. Switching to 16bit mode in the game should help immensely.

Also, I am not sure if someone else already typed this but switch to the 5.52 drivers. If you have the previous ones you'll get a very significant boost or about 24% to 36%.

                      ***In Addition***
Startrek Armada I'd swear gets at least a 80% boost from the 5.52 drivers. Not like it's stable in any case, but it was a massive improvement. There was much less hard drive access. Damn I love the uninstall utility.

Ok all, I just ran 3dMark 99 for kicks (I'm bored) and here's the benchmark. Just so you can see if things are at the appropriate level or if I really have problems (or just in UT).

                          6761 3DMarks
                          12979 CPU Marks
                          1024x768x16
                          Triple Buffering
2602 Rasterizer score (whatever that is)
                          77.7 FPS Game 1
                          59.8 FPS Game 2
366.1 FPS in Texture Rendering (2M)
295.4 FPS in Texture Rendering (4M)
205.8 FPS in Texture Rendering (8M)
156.2 FPS in Texture Rendering (16M)
92.4 FPS in Texture Rendering (32M)
115.6 FPS in Emboss Bump Mapping 3 Pass
151.8 in Emboss Bump Mapping 2 Pass
278.8 in Emboss Bump Mapping 1 Pass

I've decided I would like to switch to the standard windows Bus Mastering drivers, but how do I install them? When I uninstall the AMD drivers, will it just install the windows ones with the cd or do I need to dl anything? Thanks

Ok, I switched to the windows drivers and my hd's are now running with one at 66, the other at 33 (although I haven't officially tested that one, I'm just assuming) according to HD Tach. I'm still getting the same crappy fps. I tried to play a game yesterday (multiplayer) and it was an absolute slide show with 12 people in the level(I forgot the name, but it's the one with only rockets that is a little circle thing with a reedeemer in the middle....). I realize there is an issue of lag, but I can't even run it with bots with 4 of them....

Let's keep this going people. Maybe we'll get somewhere...

                            Thanks,

Try increasing the size of the engine cache - it's in one of the .ini files. What renderer are you using?
