  • Soldier of Fortune (Store release) & Matrox G400 fixed?

Does the final version still have the annoying texture flickers and fruity color glitches? I have had this problem in the playable demo and I know Quake2 full version had this problem until I installed TurboGL driver. I don't think TurboGL is included in SOF final. Does it?

I would like to buy the game but I was turned away because of the graphic glitches. Thank you in advance for replies.

        antdude,

i didn't notice anything in the demo. i do see a lot "wierd" screen flashing between levels though...no biggie for me. i wish i could offer an explanation for your problem, but i don't have a clue

i am not running the game at 32 bit colors, imho it's too much of a performance hit...plus i can't see any difference anyways. i do have all the other visuals on high though.

this game has been very well behaved for me, whoever said win2k isn't for gaming is only fooling themselves...i think all the newer games will have "limited" support for it...and by newer i mean from SOF and later, even though QIII and UT run great also!

        anyways here is my setup;

Motherboard: AMI MegaRUM II, dual 600Mhz Pentium III processors (installed), each with a 32/512 Cache configuration. 512 Mb of PC100(CAS3), 8ns memory. Symbios Logic 53C896 U2W SCSI controllers. Intel 443GX Xeon chipset.

        SCSI I/O:

        Channel 1(LVD/U2): 4 Seagate LVD Cheetah 18LP, ST39103LW Ultra2 Wide SCSI-3 hard Drives, each with 1024k cache.

        Channel 2(SE): JAZ 2GB internal, Plex-Writer 8/20, Pioneer DVD-303s ultra-scsi DVD reader and 2 UltraPlex-Wide 17/40 speed CD-ROM drives.

USB: USB Zip Drive, Epson Stylus Scan 2500, Intellimouse Explorer

Networking: The network adapter is a 3Com 3C509B-TX PCI 10/100 Mbps controller, and a US Robotics Courier V.Everything 33.6/28.8/x2/V.90 internal ISA modem.

Video: Matrox G400 Max with Dual Head. The primary display is a Panasonic PanaSync E21, .25-dot pitch, 20" viewable; the secondary display is a Samsung 17" Flat Panel Display(.264mm pitch) model 770TFT.

Multi-media: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live PCI Bus Mastering sound card. Speaker system is the Cambridge Works FPS2000 Digital speaker system.

I forgot to note that I don't have this problem with my Voodoo2 card.

ChuckCheese: Do you mean the screen flashings in the cutscenes or menus and load screens? I do get texture flashing and fruity colors during the cutscenes!

I'm not having problems with SOF. Have you tried uninstalling the Voodoo2 and removing the Glide dll's? I had issues with Half-Life until I got rid of the Voodoo stuff.

EvilKirk: Yup, unless I missed a few DLL files? Do you happen to have a list of files that Voodoo2/3Dfx might be using?

Here is an example of the corrupted textures in Soldier of Fortune (both demo and full version):

Note: Screen shot is blurry because of JPEG compression.

It shows a lot in the cutscenes beside the gameplay. I have this problem in Quake 2 and other Quake 2 engines (i.e. Half-Life). If I use TurboGL driver, I don't get them. However, there is no TurboGL driver for SOF yet. Anyone knows what's going on and how to fix this annoyances?

I look forward to hearing for replies.

                        Can anyone help me.
                        I have Athlon750, MS6167, 256MB Ram, Matrox
G400 32MB DH OEM, Soundblaster Platinum.

I installed the Soldier of Fortune GLSetup
stuff followed by the game (Matrox Powerdesk reports 5.52.15).
During the actual loading of the game, my PC
locks up (when the fuel guage is at about 75%).
This happens everytime, regardless of how I try and solve the problem (re-install, change resolutions etc).
I guess it's an OpenGL problem but don't know
how to get round it. Helllllllllpppp.

elmes: Is it on a specific level or every time it loads a map? Does it only do that in single player, multiplayer, or both?

I would post this on Raven -- http://www.ravensoft.com/ about this. A lot of problem related to Matrox G400 cards. I know on my system, the game crashes when loading a new level (before cutscenes) at the gun status screen.

Hi thanks, I actually sorted the problem last night. I had OpenGl32.dll in various directories. I think the one in Windows\System gave me my grief. When I removed all instances of it and then re-installed GLSetup, Windows went through the building new driver database stuff and then the game worked fine.

New problem: After the 1st level is completer the game exits back to the Windows desktop????

elmes: That is a known bug for the crash to desktop during the level 2 load (other levels as well). Check Raven Software's Web site to see all the bug reports about that. It looks like Matrox G400 users have this bug. I am one of them.

You can just go to LOAD option and go to auto-saved level 2. I still saw the cutscene.
