  • I need some DSL help...crappy pings

I was over at my little brother's place in Saskatoon the other day. He just switched from Sympatico dial-up to Sympatico high speed. Really nice download speeds, but his ping went from low 200's to over 300 in most games. The Sympatico tech guys have no clue. Is there anything that I can check/tweak for him that might help?
He's using a P3-500 (not oc'd...beats me why not...) on a P2B, 128mb ECC, Annihilator Pro (flame away....), Aureal 8830 sound card, and dlink 530tx NIC. He's running Win2K Pro.
If you need any other info, I'll see what I can find.
    Thanks guys!

heh.. don't know if this has anything to do with matrox video cards, but oh well...

as for your question... try going to a dos window and ping your provider's homepage.. find out the ping on that. then ping the server you are trying to play at. then do a tracert to both places. this will give you an idea where the high ping comes in.. if it's somwhere beyond your provider. i don't think there's anything they can do about it. on the other hand, if you do get high ping or packet lost while trying to ping your provider's server, you can contact them and notify they problem and let see if they can help. hope this can help

Well, the Annihilator replaced his old MilleniumII....

We'll give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
