Cheats are disabled or else I would have the most kills

For now, I put back in all the maps until we reach to some agreement as to what maps you all want to practice with.

If that is true Paul, then that is what I probably witnessed. One guy with more health and armor than the other four. It just seemed odd. My post was mainly to those that would try to cheat based on what Greebe wrote. I thought both nights were great even though I didn't get to play Friday night due to the server being full but I was there as a spectator. The one thing I noticed about both of the clans we faced was that it seemed that no one on the other team was ever alone. They always seemed to travel in pairs and when they went for the flag they did it as a small group, making it harder to kill the flag carrier if you were alone. Plus they never left their bases unguarded. All we need is some pratice in basic team play.

The cheat, and I don't know if it was addressed in the patch, is just a fluke.

I've had it happen a couple times to me. Somehow, at some point in time, your health will drop to zero, but you won't be dead. You cannot be killed by weapons fire in this state. If you pick up a health pack, though, the game resets you to a mortal state, and you can be killed.

It doesn't affect fall damamge, at least I don't think it does, and I don't think it makes you invulnerable to the redeemer's blast radius.

I'm sorry that I implied that anyone was cheating. I did not realize it could not be done, because of the way the Matrox server is setup. I also did not know about the fluke in UT.

Looking forward to some more matches between our two groups. You guys are great.

I was in spectator mode during that match and I couldn't find snake-eyes anywhere when he had the flag.

Just as shear speculation, I was poking around Command last night on my computer trying to figure out the same thing myself. Unfortunately I didn't think to check my teamates cams at the time so I don't know for sure. But there are two places that I found that would make very good hiding places. I verified that you could indeed get to both of them by hammer/rocket jumping.

The first and better of the two is right by the blue base. When you go up the ramp to the blue flag if you look straight above you you'll see a bunch of rafters. If you go to the far edges of the blue ledge directly above the tunnels you can hammer jump up onto them. Then go to either of the far ends and crouch in the corner nearest the blue ledge you can't be seen.

The other place and isn't nearly as good is in the blue armor/flack room. if you go in and turn around there is a ledge above the doorway. It's not a great spot but if someone isn't paying attention you might be able to get away with it.

I'm at work right now so I can't take any screen shots but I'll do so tonight and post them to make it clear.

Hehe. I hid in the one spot most people don't think to look on that map. I actually showed a few guys where I went later, after most people left. For those that weren't there when I did the little lesson in technique, here's a quick hint- practice your hammer jumping.

Couldn't see me when I had the flag, Haig? Now that's just plain weird, although none of the other players on the server for that match ever came into direct line of sight..

Hehe. HedsSpaz posted at the same time as I was making my post. All I can say is good guess. If you're facing the blue base, I was on the right-hand side of that area, crouched down in the corner.

Interestingly enough, one of the persistent bugs with my G400Max and the last few driver releases (both in Win98SE and Win2K) is that when I'm in that particular position, I can see through that front wall to the sloped area between me and the blue base. So it turns out to be a double bonus- great, hard to reach hiding spot, and quick visibility (thanks to a driver bug, hehe) of the area most attackers are likely to come from.

BTW- when you have the flag, the hammer jump really is the only way up to those areas, so brushing up on it is always a good idea. For instance, in CTF-Aqua16 (think that's the name of the other map we were playing, besides Face and Command), You can use it to speed up the return trip with the flag, by jumping though the holes in the wall of the bases (I need to work on this one a bit- I usually miss the hole, and end up having to go around).

                            Weeee! I feel clever now!

I don't remember where I read this idea, it may have been a suggestion by someone on this board or maybe I read it in a faq, I can't really remember, but anyway, something we should do as a team some night is get together and no fighting for a little while and just go carefully through each map and find hidey holes for flag carriers, practice tricks like hammer jumping places where you ordinarily need the teleporter or jump boots, and any other tricks people can think of. I know I for one have learned easily a dozen new tricks over the past week simply from being in the game and watching my teamates do stuff.

It also prompted me to carefully comb several maps looking for secrets and possible hiding places among other things (found some good new sniper points heh heh... )

So what do you guys think? Does a training night some night this week sound like a good idea?

I do know of a little ledge on the left and right sides of the cliffs in Lava, just out of the red fortress. But best bet to hide is in the same level, just outside the entrance to the most right tunnel. dropping off there not only ables you to pick up the quantum power-up, but also a hiding place for some time...

                              errrm, not anymore I think

I've got some screen shots of that hammer jump lesson that Ace was giving. Shows some of the guys trying (unsuccessfully) to get to Ace's ledge. I'll be happy to post them if someone can tell me how (do I need a website?)....or I can email them to someone that can.

I've got a fairly good hiding spot in Face -- at least it kept me alive long enough to win a match in overtime (against Ace and a couple others).
