  • Scores in 3dmark 2000?

I read a computer magazine that tested a couple of Geforce cards and a G400 DH32 and a cpuple of other cards...

Swedish Computer magazines are Matrox Haters!

As usual they stated that the G400 was:
    Slow
    Buggy
    Feature less
    Expensive

    Their test system contained a P3 750.

and in 3dmark 2000 they stated that they got an score of:
    2483 in 1024*768*16
    and 3800 in 800*600*16

    I have a P3550 and i get 2380 in 1024*768*16!

There has to be something wrong with them or their setup.

Could some one with an P3750 or equilivant confirm?

    Thanks!

Technoid...You're right. I do have a PIII 750 over clocked to 840 with a G400 Max not overclocked. If I recall correctly I get around 3400 in 3DMark2000 at 1024X768 and 16-bit color. I can check it at 750, but it hardly sounds like it's worth the re-boot.

Thanks it's good to hear that a CPU uppgrade would make a difference!

        Technoid,

Just for chuckles I ran 3DMark2000 at 1024 X 768, 16 bit color, 16-bit z-buffer, triple frame buffer, etc. (defaults) at 750 MHz on my PIII. Score was 3200. This is with a G400Max, but a G400 can't be that much slower. I hope you don't subscribe to that magazine!

          Technoid,

I think they were right with their points.
I got an Athlon 650 and have a result of 2500+/-. Tried it with a Max and I got 3000+. I didn't know that the max ist THAT scalable.

            Lame Swedes!

It's so bloody typical for them, with their 'I know better than you' arrogant way!
I've never met a single Swedish technician worth any respect, so forget about how they rate anything, trust me, you don't wanna know!

            BTW I run 3518 3Dmarks in 1074*768*16 on a P3-600E@800

I just ran 3DMark 2000 again, with the default settings, here are the results :
Final score : 3411 (SSE enabled)
              Helicopter test :
              - low : 69.5
              - medium : 48.1
              - high : 21.1
              Adventure test :
              - low : 65.1
              - medium : 49.1
              - high : 31.4

              My system :
              P3 550E@770
              256Mo CAS 3
              G400Max@110% (AGP 1x for stability)
              everything SCSI
Here we are... Seems like the magazine turned SSE off (DX7 software T&L) in order to make the GeFore look impressive in comparison...

                Tech,
I'm running a 650E, 256 ram, IBM 7200, Abit BE6 and a G400 Max. I hit 3d marks of 3170 with out overclock... The Sweeds must of missed something, you think

As for the rest of the magazine statements :
                    - slow ? Well, maybe it's not as fast as the GeForce, but that doesn't mean exactly slow either. Under certain circonstances (big enough CPU), the Max can be the fastest card of its generation.
                    - Buggy ? If you know what to do, or if you read the MURC enough , installation and most bugs can be ironed out very well. Besides, both my vanilla and my Max are stable as rock and I experience very few graphical glitches in games (but I may not be a very good judge here, having been hurt by a previous ATI experience)
                    - Feature less ? I don't think I need comment this one. The G400 has the best feature set for an available video card (DualHead and EMBM may come to mind )
                    - Expensive ? Not too much, actually, when I can find a DualHead vanilla for under the price of an SDR GeForce. The second CRT sure ups the price a little...

Looks like the magazine is especially biased. Perhaps the writer was severely beaten with Matrox cards when he was young, I don't know.

Most of you probably already know this, but if you don't, the MadOnion 3DMark2000 online browser works now, so you can compare your scores directly.

                          Johnny Ray,

Is there a way to browse through the database of results, like the old Wintune benchmark. When I try to compare my results under 3D Accelerators, 3dMark reports "Your processor is overclocked. The above graph shows nearest possible match which in this case is Intel Pentium III 750MHz". But there is no graph!

Under Processors, I get the same message but a graph is generated comparing my score to a few others using just a bar chart. I want to view the specific of each system like which vid card they're using. Am I overlooking something or is it just not possible vid card, CPU speed, ram, mobo, etc. Is there anyway to do that?

                            Flenn,

I was wondering the same thing. Haven't figured out how to do what you describing, but that would certainly be of value.
