win2k+games;Gurus requested-anyone will do

Well, as the subject suggests, i have a problem with win2k pro and games (i know it isnt a gaming platform). anyways, whenever im playing games it seems like after about 4 hours or something around there, the game bails because apparently i lost my CD-ROM drive from the system as well as one of my HD's...the error message title i get is delayed write failed...after all the files that were open on that drive are listed, there are two other screens both saying that there has been an unsafe removal of drive.
I don't have ACPI running in win2k, and i am not sure, but i think it might be because of Hard drive shutdown thingys so that it goes to sleep, doesnt wake up and win2k assumes that the drive is gone (just a thought).

Anyways, anyone have any ideas, it is ticking me off, Gurm, or any other win2k gurus, or even anyone who has some idea of whats going on.

Turn off the hard drive spindown until your mobo manufacturer gets their ACPI BIOS right, is my guess.

There are quite a few ACPI BIOSes that don't correctly wake hard drives up. It's on the fix list from ASUS and ABIT as a VERY recently fixed problem. So I would say that perhaps Tyan has the same difficulty. For the forseeable future, I'd disable all hard-drive spindown, both in the BIOS and in the system settings.

Also make sure that APM is disabled in the BIOS... IF ACPI is enabled.
