  • Athlon/kx133 + g400 max performance

I just got a 700 athlon, 128 megs micron pc133, abit ka7 and g400 max (had been using p2-400, 128 megs micron pc100, asus p2b, and voodoo2 12meg). I am satisfied with the performance, and thrilled with the image quality. q3arena won't run in 5.52, but everything seems to run in 5.41, although the benchmarks aren't quite as good. Both q2 (70.8 fps @ 1024x768x16bpp with 5.52) and q3 (44.0 fps @ 1024x768x16bpp with 5.41) hang with either turbogl, so I just use the ICD. The Forsaken benchmark doesn't score very high surprisingly. I was sure that the g400 would be faster than a voodoo 2 in direct 3d. (85.78 fps g400 vs. 152.73 fps voodoo 2 @ 640x480x16bpp in 5.52). Any idea how long it will be before Matrox supplies a driver with 5.52 speed and 5.41 compatibilty? Also, if anyone would follow up with what you think relevant bios settings should be for best performance I would appreciate it.

    ps.
Unreal scores are low compared to 3dfx. Is Unreal Tournament any better?

Is your monitor's refresh rate 85 Hz? If it is, disable vsync and your Forsaken scores will most likely improve. (I'm suspicious because you're getting about 85 fps.)

Vsync can be disabled with either the Matrox Tweak utility or with a registry hack. Both can be downloaded from the MURC's utility section. You want the PD5 registry hack or *Matrox's* tweak utility (ver. 1.12). There's a third party utility with a similar name.

I agree with Paul, disable Vsync and rerun the Forsaken benchmarks.
