  • New Drivers??

Im not sure if this is the right forum... but head over to Gigabytes page, they seem to have newer G400 drivers. The odd thing is the file dates are older than the 5.52 release, although the version is 5.53? file size seems larger than the matrox releases as well. Post your results, Ill give them a try and get back to everyone shortly,

Gigabyte is the only company that has made a Matrox clone board. However, it is designed such that it can only be used with Gigabyte motherboards because it stores the video BIOS on the mobo instead of the Vid Card. I suspect that they made enough changes to the board that it requires that they make some small changes to the drivers in order for them to work properly with their clone board.
I wouldn't recomend trying those drivers with a real G400. They are probably Gigabytes custom version of PD5.52.

Hope that gives you some insight.

          Yup.
Thise drivers are not for standard G400s, but Giga's MG400.
Unless you have a Giga video card, and a Giga Mobo, I'd leave these alone.

            Hi there,

well I've modified my driver pack and installed it here on my system (I DID NOT UPLOAD IT). First the drivers themselves, they seem to be a little fresher than the 5.52.015 from matrox but only ~10 days or so (but if you check the readme.txt they are both, the 5.52.015 and the GigaByte one, dated 21st). The ICD and the D3D drivers as well as the display driver have been edited or modified as they do have a new version number.

I installed the drivers via my tweaked driver pack (the original GigaByte install will not work because they deleted the graphics card info from the inf so that only the GigaByte board is recognized) and they work.

Nothing changed concerning 2D graphics and there are no problems of any kind. (some might expect some because GigaByte's G400 works a little different to other graphics cards BUT the drivers do not seem to be modified for the special bios situation.)

To test the drivers I've started 3DMark2000 for D3D testing... no improvement (meaning visually and performance wise). Then I ran Quake3 which I ran with the ICD to test the "new" ICD, no difference in performance nor visual quality.

Next I launched two OpenGL programs which were not working with the older ICD from the 5.52.015 pack but even with the GigaByte ICD nothing worked.

So summing the above up, the drivers do work but it seems they're just edited to work more confident with the GigaByte board because there is no other difference than the version number between the 5.52.015 driver and the GigaByte's!

One thing I'd like to ask though, GigaByte claim they fixed:

            - Fix 32MB regonized as 16MB issue
            - Fix 3D Winbench2000 color issue

Now the first problem did never happen here on my system but what about the color issue? Anyone with 3D Winbench2000 who experienced something like that with the 5.52.015 or earlier G400 standard drivers?

            regards
            PKY

I've just mixed the drivers again and found out that after a remove process (removing the old drivers via the uninstaller) and installing this new mix my D3D performance got slightly better.

So far I did not encounter any problems so I updated my driverpack with these new drivers. The driverpack is now based on 5.53.017 and might be worth a try. All those who do not want to risk anything may wait for a new driver pack based on Matrox's new release (which hopefully will be out soon)!!!

Besides the driver the goodies and FAQ are still those from the v1.3 driverpack. So just d/l if you really want to try whether or not they are faster for you in D3D (and maybe OpenGL).

              best regards

I've experienced the color issue in 3D Mark 2000 on 5.52's drivers. It happens in the Helicopter part. The ground goes shades of magenta and cyan. The rest of the tests were fine.

At this point, my games are happy, so I'll wait for either the next driver release, or a V5-5500 - whichever arrives first. :-)

IceStorm: This is very interesting... I never really noticed it using my driverpack (the 5.52.015 based one) but AFAIK this "error" is fixed since the 5.53.017 drivers (which are not official Matrox drivers, mail me for info!

Thorgal the red: glad it works for you! I'm quite happy with it too! =)
