  • G400 and OpenGL

Hi i'm can't seem to get any opengl games to run on my G400.

    System specs:

    TMC TI5VG+(1mb cache)
    192 mb ram
    20 gb IBM hard disk
    Matrox G400
    Soundblaster Live Value

I have tried installing the latest set of via
    4 in 1 drivers
    The latest matrox drivers
And tried running the latest version of GLSetup but still can't get Half-life or quake 3 to run in opengl.

    Any help would gratefully received.

Get rid of those Via drivers. They're to blame 9 times out of 10.

      Lets start with the basics:

Do you have an IRQ assigned to the card?
Is it a unique IRQ of 9 or higher?
Are you running your desktop in 16 or 32bit color?
What kind of error are you getting when you run the game?

Ah, and forget GLSetup. Since you have run that, I suggest fully un-installing the G400 drivers, and installing the 5.30 version...

        Kruzin
It has been assigned an IRQ of 11
desktop is set to 16 bit 1024x768
        I am using K6III 450 processor
the error that i get is that the system locks up and i have to hit the reset switch.

I have uninstalled drivers and am going to try the 530 drivers.
Will post an another message to let you know how i get on.

          Hi,

There is a known issue with the VIA chipset and the drivers, when used together. Matrox are working on fixing this bug. Hopefully,
it will be fixed in the next driver revisions. For now, I recommend the
5.30 drivers with the 1.00.002 turbo GL, found here: http://www.matrox.com/mga/drivers/previous/prv_drv.htm

However, make sure to uninstall your latest drivers prior to upgrading.
          Here's how to do it:

1- Use the uninstall utility (called pd_unin.zip), found here: http://www.matrox.com/mga/drivers/files/ftp_util2.htm

2- Go to Safe Mode and search for files pd*.*. Delete the following files:

          - Pdesk
          - Pdkernel.dll
          - Pdeskres.dll
          - Pdtools.dll
          - Pdesk.lgc

3- Delete (if applicable) the file called "opengl32.dll" from the GAME(s)
          folder (NOT WINDOWS/SYSTEM)!

4- Then, install the 5.30 drivers, instead. Followed by the Turbo GL.

          Regards,

          James

            Ha!

I only can tell you that Q3A demo doesn't run on my brilliant system. ))
            K6-III/450, Epox VIA MVP3, G400 DH
            BUT!
            HL does... )
Q3 used to run (some months ago) but I've installed some sort of via driver. (4.20 IIRC)
Anyway, Q3 ran with 5.52's ICD.
            HL runs in ogl mode.

            Regards,
            Yanee

              Thanks Eriko,
The combination of 5.30 drivers and turbogl v1.00.002 has solved my problems.
Quake 3 and half-life now run fine in opengl.

Again many thanks for helping me fix my system.
