  • quake 3 and graphics problems

    I have a pIII450, 128 mb ram
An abit be6 11 mb , a maxtor udma hard drive ,soundblaster live and a g400 max.
The problem i am getting is on my shadow and on gun shot marks on the walls and floor.
When i look at them they have black diagonal lines running through them or they look like a fine mesh, basicly it does not look very good.
Also on stairs from a distance i can see different colours coming through, blues reds and pinks.
Anyone one got any ideas on how to cure this.
    Thanks for any help given.

    Hi,
What version of drivers are you using? are you using Win2k?, Win98? or WinMe? I think I got that problem once before...but that was awhile ago, and I already forgot how I fixed it...try using PD5.30, use a non-patched Q3 to see if it's the newer patches' problem...try different graphics settings...lower some details...don't know if I can help, give them a try...

I am experiencing exactly the same problems, as many others do... I think all we can do is wait for Matrox to release a new driver with the fix for it.

I will include the colour anonymaly on my G400 driver bugs site... (the shadow problem is already there)

We've had the shadow problem for the last 2 monhs. It's a driver problem nothing is wrong with your puter.

It is because You use "standard_icd" provided by drivers. This OpenGL ICD is universal for most OGL apps, but has some artifacts in specific apps(such as decals in q3a) And in such cases you should use "optimized" drivers, for q3a and other OGL games - TurboGL. It hit performance a bit, but improve visuals. Although i suggest to use standard ICD with shadows and marks off. The reasons, i hope, is obvious.
And else - TurboGL is for Win9x ONLY(!)

I just realised that i had not installed the turbo gl.
Which i have just done and it has fixed the shadow problems.
I had it installed in the demo of Q3A but it did not fix the shadow problems.
                Oh well

Is it just me, or everybody with Matrox g400 32mb DH can see lines in quake 3 arena when shooting or moving near fire. I can see them also in other open gl games. This is not shadow problem. These horizontal lines appears like bad refresh rate.
For example: fire machinegun standing against the wall and horizontal lines through screen appear.
Please tell me it is not hardware problem!

I also have them, same card and same problems. I don't think it's bad hardware since in previous drivers the problem wasn't there.

I would put you a link, but Matrox's site isn't responding.
