  • Diablo 2 crashes with BSoD... G400-related?

Twice, Diablo 2 (single player) crashed with blue screens of death (BSoD). It happens in the dry hill area near the curve steps in Act 2. If I remember correctly, I was running during the crashes. After the crashes, my sound is stuck (repeating sound). I have to reboot the computer to fix this. I never had this problem before in Diablo 2.

First time, BSOD, Windows crashed hard! I had to use the reset button.
    Second time, BSOD, Windows survived.

Award Modular BIOS (v4.51PG; Updated: 10/26/1999), Intel Pentium II 300 Mhz (DFI P2XBL motherboard revision A -- 440BX 100 Mhz bus tower, 128 MB of SDRAM (PC100), ATX Full Tower Case, 300W power supply, 2 ISA, 3 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 Shared PCI/ISA Slot, 2 USB ports, 512K L2 cache, IBM P72 17" monitor (6556), Matrox Millenium G400 32 MB DualHead, Creative Labs 3D Blaster (PCI, Voodoo 2, 3Dfx, 12 MB, using 3Dfx's lastest reference

Linux v5.1, two regular computer fans (CPU and normal) and 1 custom fan for 3Dfx card, and a HP DeskJet 560c printer. Running DirectX 7a and Yamaha Sondius XG SoftSynthesizer v1.0 for better MIDI in Windows 98.

Any ideas? Is it a sound related problem? I am using the lastest drivers for everything. I look forward to receiving replies soon.

    Addendum:

I forgot to note that shutting down/restarting Windows 98 after a BSoD crash, it gave me another BSoD. Then, it got stuck and frozed hard (mouse cursor didn't move). I was forced to use reset button. I think it is related to the stuck sound problem .

What leads you to the conclusion that this is G400 related? I have no problems with the latest beta drivers and the patch.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

I am not sure if it is a video problem, a sound problem, or something else?

Take a look at your sound card drivers. I haven't had any problems under 98 with the G400Max. I have, however had problems with Force Commander freezing when it starts a particular audio sequence in the tutorial levels.

Did you do the complete install, or one of the partial ones?
