YAY!! It worked....

At least I got to shoot that Red-headed Dart-Mahl or Maul in the head once, even with a ping of 906

Thx all for helping me!

But Haig, do re-enable downloads!! I'm still begging you

Glad you're back Jorden.
I haven't been able to download that Castle skin either, but it doesn't seem to cause a problem with connecting.

I disabled downloads because there were alot of complaints from people saying that it would either time out during the download, it takes too long, and it interferes with the game play.

If you want to re-enable it, let's take a vote and make a definate decision.

Or, we can just keep it simple and have no more updates other than the game patches themselves.

You guys decide.

Haig

I'm all for re-enabling the downloads, as well as continuing with custom skins and maps, so long as we can get them posted onto the Clan-Mu site (with good instructions, hehe). Of course, this means some of the dial-up guys will definitely need to make sure they have all the custom maps and skins, or risk a long wait while they download at the server. Even so, at least they can get the stuff, and still get in (eventually).

Haig, I don't check the Clan-MU server ever time before I want to play UT online. so when it then tells me you've added something I am pissed off... Just re-enable the d/l's so even others can reach us easily without having to bypass MURC or Clan-MU to see what changed again, to play with us.

Frank: Try the DinoCow.zip as well...
Btw, the TCowMeshSkinsOZUnreal1.int and .utx are in the orginal Tcwosh1t.zip !!
You still have to install those !!

"ping of 906"

where is the MGI server located anyway?

I get a ping of 150 - 180.... so it can't be that far from the Netherlands, can it?

I have a question: When you download directly from a UT server, the file is stored in the Cache directory with a different name and extension. Am I understanding this correctly? If so, how do you save it to the proper map and texture directory so that when the "purge cache" day expires, it's not deleted?

(In the mean time, I increased the time before purge to more than a year)

Of course we want more customs skins
I don't know if it's possible but we could enable the download for a day right after Haig did an update. We could also do the redirection thing so if someone knows how to do that drop a line in here. One of the bad things about enabling the downloads is that if the server is full and people without the skins/mods try to join it'll send them the files eventhough it's full. With the server full I don't think we need extra lag do we?
I know how it feels to try to join and get locked out but I'd rather download all the files(after yelling a little) at 50K/s and then get to keep the files after too as a backup instead of watching a black loading screen for god knows how long.
Lag or no lag I'll still be playing I'm the guy getting kicked off every 5 mins and I come back for more.

My new strategy is to wait til CyberTek gets booted, then grab the flag and run!

heh I still fear your shock rifle Beezer
I did a little bit of searching on the redirection thing here, scroll down to 03/28/00...Redirect Downloads. There are some more explanation in the release notes.
What it does is it redirects people to a website that contains the files compressed in .uz format. We could have them on the Clan-MU site or some other sites if we're taking too much space on the MU server.I don't mind doing the compression but someone has to explain which files to compress. Can you compress everything in one file or do you have to compress each skin one by one or all .int .u .utx files for each skin? We could test it with the TCows files some people are having trouble with and see how it goes. Let me know what you guys think. If you just want to enable the download that's cool I won't keep looking for a how-to for this.
