Okay, here what happened. I uninstalled the first beta 6 drivers. Rebooted to VGA mode, ran the setup.exe and immediately got:
SETUP caused an invalid page fault in
module SETUP.EXE at 0177:00402fe6.

I never got to see the Matrox background and the welcome/introduction screen! Also, I noticed it left a few files in my temporary directory (g:\temp\). I dumped the crash to a file from Dr. Watson (Windows 98). You can view it at: http://home.apu.edu/~philpi/temp/watson-beta-w9x601.zip (65K zipped) if it helps anyone to debug. You need to run drwatson.exe to view this binary log file (mine was in c:\windows\drwatson.exe).
I ran the final version of 5.52.015, and it didn't crash! What the heck? I even clean boot for the beta 6 drivers. I know the file is not corrupted because I did a Pkzip test on it. No errors. I am using Windows 98 OEM (original), Pentium II 300 Mhz, 128 MB of RAM, Matrox G400 32 MB (non-MAX), etc.
Does anyone know where I can contact the beta developers with this information I have? I look forward to receiving replies soon.
