Strange UT happenings

I tried to connect 3 times to the MGI UT server tonight (well, okay, make that my morning ), and all 3 times UT said there could be no connection made, yet when I exited UT, my modem was connected to something... pumping data at 6k/sec. Now with nothing in my system tray but for sound and the Quick Desk, I wonder what was going on there.

All three times I disconnected and rebooted my PC.

So, I'm at a loss... anyone with a good guess?

Your ping may be to high.
Try to connect by using the open location heres the ip for quick ref. 204.50.135.80 if that does not work you may try hitting the CTF tap and get all the servers and then try it that way. I just ran out of ideas.

OK, 204.50.138.80 doesn't work! 204.50.135.80 is the right one. But I can't play. Server refuses to send a package called "Alita".Does anybody know what this means?

Elemental, you will have to do a LOT of downloading to play on the MGI server. Go to http://clan-mu.matroxusers.com/ and find the files section. There you will find the TONS of maps and skins that you have to load to play with us. IMHO there is way too many things required to get to play on the server. Since all of the skins and stuff have come along the server has died. I never see anyone playing there anymore (at least not like it was before the "additions")

I agree, Kindness. While UT isn't my favorite game, it use to be fun to drop in and play with the MU clan. After I got all the downloads sorted out with Oboy's patient help, there's almost no one on the server now!

I think the server should be plain. Just the Bonus Pack and the stuff that most people have already. All of the special skins (that hardly anyone uses) have caused more problems than they are worth. People that come to the MURC are sometimes new to the games that we play, and don't know enough about them to do all of the stuff you have to do to get into the MGI server.

I don't think the lack of players has anything to do with the skins/maps. Most of the usual players have those working already and Haig said he will enable the downloads when the next patch comes out. I think it was the bad connection of the server that pushed everyone away but I could be wrong. It could be that it's not cold anymore so they're enjoying the weather outside The connection is fine now, we played on Saturday and it was nice and fun.
Oboy sorry about yesterday my Riot map disappeared for some reason. This is the second time this has happened. I hate that map

I also think you should cut the server down to just the basics and the bonus pack.

I used to play on the server a while back but haven't bothered to download all the new skins etc.

I don't have a lot of spare time so when I get the chance I just want to start fraggin, not downloadin.

Well, I started playing on the server pretty much AFTER the extra skins/maps so I can't say for sure why there's a low headcount. I have to admit that sometimes I check in and see one or two players (usually Cyber )and not bother to play. It's always more fun when there are more players and I usually continue searching for a server that's close to full. We would all benefit by doing anything we can to get more people, if that means limiting the skin and/or maps, then we should consider it.

Maybe we could reduce the skins (not many people are using them anyway) to just the ones people are using (gotta keep Darth Mahl ).
I like the assortment of maps though, and don't think that is as much of a hinderance for newcomers because even if you don't have all the maps, you can still join a game except when that particular map is being played -- and right now most of the maps in the rotation are standard.

I think most people's frustrations are coming from the skins (and maybe mods) because unless you have them all, you can't log on even though they may not be in use.

It all depends on if Haig is willing to go and remove each skin by hand .
