  • G400 lockups+probs (lotsa games - familiar?)

    Win98, PII450/ G400 32MB OEM, 256 Megs RAM, ABIT BE6, IBM 7200 14 gig. 5.13 drivers (tried 5.15).

Ok, Ive been playing various games on my G400 and I'll note the problems below with no solutions - if anyone has these working correctly then I'd love to know. ive noted that OpenGL at fullscreen seems to have bad problems - but windowed is better (OpenGL screensavers - and Winamp plugins ...)

Those Ive noted below indicate some rather serious driver issues - Im willing to wait, cos all new cards have these, especially with a new chipset - V3 / TNT2 are just rehashes of older chips - and thus have mature drivers.

    bert

    1. System Shock 2 - fine at 640x480 - dark gamma probs at any other res. Ok with old ATI Rage Pro.

    2. Descent 3 Demo 2a - bombs on level load. Ok with ATI Rage Pro (but slooooow

    3. Battleszone 2 demo - bombs on level load.
Ok with ATI Rage Pro. But old Battlezone is lurvly on G400 - any res.

    4. Expendable - lurvly.

    5. QuakeIII - 32 bit probs, locks after getting onto any level after a couple of secs - ATI Rage Pro fine (but slow

    6. GLQW - heh - nothing.

    7. Lots of others - mostly older D3D titles which are fine - odd glitches, but similar to ones encountered on my old ATI card.

I had major problems with other games crashing on me all the time like Drakan and NHL99, changed the motherboard to an older Intel SE440-BX2 and the crashes have all disappeared. My bet would be on the mobo since on the newsgroups so many people are having various problems with BE6's.
    PIII 700@960, Asus CUSL2, Adaptec 29160, 2x Seagate Barracuda 18.2GB, SB LIve!, 3COM 3C905TX, 256MB Muskin Rev. 2 PC133 at 2-2-2, G400MAX soon the be replaced with ?.

I was having similar problems and was attributing them to the G400. It turns out that on my system it was a conflict with the PD drivers and the 2035 Aureal reference drivers I was using with my monster sound mx300. I changed to an older version of the Aureal drivers and the problems went away.

Well, 5.21 introduced lovely new D3D problems but some prodding at my end with my G400/BE6 combo has proven fruitful.
Movement off IRQ5 to 9 has resulted in Q3Test 1.08 now working. Wheyyyyyy.

        Ta all.

            Bobby:

Ah, see you didn't say that the G400 was on IRQ5.

You should go to the FAQ forum and read "the rules". One of the rules is that the G400 MUST BE ON AN IRQ HIGHER THAN 8!

            *sigh*

Other than that, be aware that the BE6 was "recalled" (they didn't really do a recall, but they yanked the ones from store shelves) due to SERIOUS voltage issues.

Yours may have these issues. ABIT will replace it if this is the case.

If only life were as easy as you
            I would still get screwed

Hold on, you're using 5.13? Have you tried any of the new ones (5.52, beta 6.x)? Also, the voltage problem with the BE6 that Gurm mentioned might also be the problem
