Yokomo - I think Durango just wanted some clarification... i.e. a Voodoo5 is not as good as a G400 in 2D. Heh. You just reversed 'em, made it seem like the V5 was better.

I'm glad to hear the Radeon's drivers are good, although I'm not sure anything can save ATI at this point. Their hardware has always been excellent, and their video playback unrivaled. But after seeing the mess with the Rage Pro, and then the Rage128 and Rage128Pro, and then the horrifying "we just won't make drivers, sorry you're out of luck" with the Fury Maxx... well, I dunno if ATI is worth redeeming.

In other news, isn't it nice to see Diamond slide off the face of the earth finally?

To clarify my stance on it. To me the Radeon's 2D is a step up from the Voodoo 5 5500 (which in it's self is very good), and a small step behind the G400MAX. I have 2 Viewsonic PF790 19" monitors that on the Voodoo5 become unreadable at 1280X1024 85Hz. The Radeon and G400MAX both display crystal clear images on the same monitor up to 1600X1200 at 75Hz with the MAX being ever so slightly cleaner looking. Matrox is and will for the foreseeable future the best 2D maker there is. The ATI card is so far better in 3D speed, Tied with the MAX in image quality, And has from all accounts (save the 16bit color problem) stable drivers that have worked with everything I can throw at it. Which one do I like better? for 3D the Radeon for 2D work the MAX.

My suggestion, everyone just wait for the G800. If this doesn't appear to be what you're looking for, then the competitions price will have dropped a bit and the money saved could then go toward some other puter toy

DVD is irrelevant. You can get Cinemaster off of windrivers. As long as your processor does not suck, you're good to go on that front.

The Asus V7700 seems to be the way I'll go after considering everything.
