Did that, still a no go.

I still get the OpenGL mode not supported error.
Wierd thing is that I can copy the opengl32.dll into another directory (in Half-Life\gldrv), assign it in gldrv.txt, and it will run (albiet EXTREMELY SLOW (.5 fps, yes .5)).

So is my problem then with Half-Life files?
    So I reinstall HL?

Ijon_Tichy - I have had the same problems and have tried the same things plus different resolutions, drivers, modes (dual head on and off ect)and even reinstalled after I got my new hard drive. I am still using the turbo drivers.

First, make sure your G400 is assigned an IRQ, 8 or higher is desirable. Second, make sure you have your desktop set to 16 or 32 bits, NOT 24 or 8. Third make sure you have the drivers installed for your G400, and the drivers for your chipset installed.

I run HL in OpenGL under W2K every day...
You have to use zoomtrick or smth. like that though.

And in DX it still kills W2K... just hangs..

You are referring to GL-Ztrick, setting it to 1. You only have to do this with the latest betas. This problem has already been addressed in the latest internal betas, so this switch won't be necessary.

Hm.. if you know about latest betas, maybe you can tell me if this was addressed too: http://www.geocities.com/newarsa/common/mb.html

Oh, and that crash in DirectX... see, in TFC and single mode it works fine, but in CS it just dies after some time...I used heapsize commant line parameter with no luck. I guess it could have something to do with my sound (AC97) but who knows...

The vast majority of texture corruption such as what you show on your website is now gone in win2k. I don't play CS much, but tonight I will give it a shot.

I still can't run HL with default OpenGL.
I reinstalled HL, still no go.

The wierd thing is if I copy my opengl32.dll from windows\system to Half-life\gldrv and edit the drvmap.txt, HL with run with this driver, albeit extremely slow.

So what is going on? HL does not like the same opengl32.dll that is in windows\system.

Is my problem tucked away somewhere in the registry?

Should I try a reinstall of windows?

                  Please help.

That is not a driver, that is the windows system file that allows interface between the ICD, the drivers and windows. When you put that file in your folder, you are basically doing OpenGL in software, not hardware. You will need to check the things that have been mentioned in this and many other threads first. That means you NEED an IRQ assigned to your vid card. You NEED drivers installed for your vid card, and perhaps your motherboard. You NEED to have your desktop set to 16 bit or 32 bit, You NEED to have your AGP aperature set to 128 or 256 in your bios. If these things check out, you will NEED to post some system specifics for us to help you, that means a rundown of ALL your hardware and an IRQ list.

I realize that my G400 shares an IRQ, but it has never given any other problems, and I have read the sharing on my Abit board is ok.
I never had problems with TurboGL, just default OpenGL/ICD.

After poking around my comp, I found something called SetupGL, a program that installed Matrox OpenGL drivers from PD 5.51. I must have installed it months ago. Could this be the culprit?

Again, to everyone, thank you so much for your responses.

Hi, I see that you have another video card installed. That brings up two questions: First, do you have the bios set to AGP video card as primary? Second, have you tried taking out the SIS to see if it helps?

Yes, the G400 is primary card.
I have not removed the Sis, also at 16bit since I seem to have no problems running it and TurboGL.

OK, I am a dumbass. Thanks for everyone's time on this issue.

Disabling my extended desktop via the SiS did the trick. I can now run default openGL. :-)

However, when I alt-tab, I loose sound when I return to game, and some grafix are corrupted including the HL/TFC screens similar to what happens in D3D but not as severe. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal. Alt-tab is a hit and miss thing with most 3D games/apps with most video cards.
