  • Fix problems with Falcon 4.0 and a Matrox Marvel G400

    Hello,
This is an FYI for anyone that has trouble getting their Falcon 4.0 Flight Sim game to work with their Matrox marvel G400 Video card. I went throug hours of work trying to make it work, it would only get a startup screen that I could not access all of the functions to start it. After hours of work, working on Directx, and al the other stuff, this is what I did.

First of al yes, I have al the latest drivers, bios, etc, etc. I (loaded) re-loaded Directx 5. I then reloaded DirectX 6, and then the upgrade patch. I then reloaded Directx 7 and then Directx 7a. it finally works! Apparently Falcon 4.0 wants more than just the latest Directx it wants the previous version also. But just re-loading 6 and 7 was not enough, I had to go back to v5 and work my way up to v7a.

Yes I have all of the latest Falcon 4.0 files, updates etc. It took my hours but the damned thing finally works! Now, what's al the fuss about this flight sim being so good -

If you need to go all the way back to DX 5 then it looks kind of like anyone with Win 98SE is pretty goosed.

I tried F4.0 but had to take it back after a week as I couldn't get it to run stable enough.

It is definietly hard getting it to work with the G400 but I have done it. I really cannot figure out why it is so damned hard to make it work wit it. I am not sure if it is the problems with directsx older/newer versions, but it seems like that it may. At the time I first posted this I thought I had found a clue, but maybe it only needs DirectX 7 , but I also have Directx 6 in my computer. In any case it will work, but wish I knew why it is so hard to run, also it takes forever to start-up and sometimes I have to sart from a clean boot. I really think that the Matrox Marvel G400 drivers are not up to this game, and/or Directx 7 and 7a are really buggy versions.
