G400 + Rogue Spear = Bad

Ok guys, I searched the forum before reposting this thread, but I need an asnwer.

It seems that numerous other people have had this problem, but there have been no answers.

I recently picked up Rogue Spear cheap and was trying to give it a go. I can watch the intro movies, but as soon as I try to start a mission the load screen shows up for a second, then it dumps me back to the desktop.

My config is as follows:
Cel 566@850
G400 32MB DH 6.01 drivers
Abit BX6r2
128MB PC100 RAM
MX300 Soundcard
3Com NIC
Hollywood Real Magic+
Maxtor 20GB HD
Lots of fans and a FEP32 on the cpu, so heat is not the problem.

I play it all the time and don't have any problems. 1280x1024 resolution. It's beautiful!

There is a patch out for RS. Have you installed that??

Yes, I have patched Rogue Spear to 2.05.

When I did a search on the forums for the problem, it seemed that I was not the only one.

Oh yeah, I am running DX7a on a Win98 install too.

I've seen this problem before. I know it sounds stupid but a reinstall sometimes cures it. And no! I don't know why!

Try to check the 'rommel.log' file, it could perhaps give you a clue.

BTW. the 5.52 or 5.55 drivers works better with RS than the 6X beta's does. At least for me. The 6X's gives some blurriness at some levels!

Thanks TTCharon, I'll give the reinstall a try this weekend, and if that doesn't work, I'll try some older drivers and see if they help.

Yeah do that! It might help!

But don't forget to check the file 'rommel.log'. Its in your RS main directory. It logs engine errors, you might be able to use the info contained there.
Open it with your Notepad.
It's extremely useful when you use MODS and they screw up!
