Shogun - no hardware acceleration?

I am playing Shogun - Total War on Windows 2000 with the latest beta driver. The card is G400 Max.

I can only select software acceleration from video options and it is kind of slow in 3D combat. Is there a way to enable hardware acceleration?

The default setup in video options is "primary video card". This enables 3D for the terrain. The soldiers themselves are 2D sprites. Try running at lower screen resolutions - there are options for both battle map and tactical maps.
