  • Deus-Ex is the best game out there!

Just thought I would let everyone know that this game is hard (When you play on realistic!) and it's very, very polished.

My poor old G200 is sweet at 640x480 with the D3D patch download for Matrox cards from the developers site.

    Sweet!

Yes, Deus Ex is indeed a kick-ass game ! Haven't dared to try realistic yet. It doesn't really matter what level you play it at, 'cause the storyline is so compelling that you just can't stop playing it.
If you start playing, don't count on getting any work done for the next 5-6 days

Played it at 800x600 on my 16 meg G400, very choppy sometimes, but the game is not heavily FPS dependent.

I played the demo (until it locked up the computer), and thought it was middling to poor. Ugly as sin, sloppily put together from a technical point of view, a tiresome interface and a cliched plot. What is it that I missed in this uebergeeky SShock2 clone?

Incidentally, Borg, since when is Croatia in the EU? Or is there another meaning in your little profile?

I haven't tried the game but the reviews I've read praised it for its flexibility in what strategies a player can choose: One's decisions will have varying consequences later in the game. They liked that one could be stealth and crafty or Rambo or other variants and still succeed. This free-form style of play is apparently a new feature in this genre of games. The review did knock the dialog and slowdowns.

Works better if you alter the deusex.ini file so that the cachesizemegs=4 reads...

cachesizemegs=(insert total RAM capacity after deducting 32 for windows)

                e.g I have 128mb so I changed it to 90mb so windows has 32mb and a 6mb buffer.

I have a 350, G400 MAX and it runs 1024x768 as sweet as a nut. Oh, colour mode @ 16bit though.

Yep, its a great game, but the slowdowns are quite annoying, even at 640x480x32, and I've got a fairly powerful system.

                    Hi Guys,

                    I run this game on a PII 300 @ 450 (SL2YK chip) with an 8 meg G200 Millenium and 96 megs ram.

My cache size is set to 8 meg and decals etc are turned on. Everything is turned on and textures etc are set to medium.

No slowdowns except very breifly for a second or 2 when outside in a large area with heaps of activity going on.

My only suggestion that made a HUGE difference to the games smoothness was the installation of the D3D patch if you already haven't downloaded it.

Bad luck if this will not made a significant impact for you.

Set this game on realistic and you MUST use your brains to play this game as a single shot can & will kill you.

                    Cheers,

                    Mellow

Apologies to Borg if you got upset (in retrospect, the 'little' in my post could look pejorative). As regards the D3D patch - no. As I said, I played the demo (which may or may not have been pre-equipped with the updated .dll). Even if it did run well enough, though (as it does on 3Dfx-equipped machines or adequate spec, and as it doesn't on most others, even now), I still wouldn't think too much of it, I'm afraid...

well!...to bed ! still thanks apologies accepted !..maybe you should give it a try once because it is not an ordinary First.P.S. its a mixture of MATRIX & X-FILES combinated with some sort BORG tchnologies ( better to say NANO TECHNOLOGIES ) & the killing is not the only option in this game & this is why I like it so much...
