  • #[MU] Channel Problem

Oboy and I have been trying to help a couple of people with an IRC problem in UT.
It seems that they can connect to the channel but once there they can't see anyone. They dont't get the list to the right with all of the names in it. I can see them when they join the channel, double click their name and open a private channel to them where we can talk. But, for some reason they don't get the #[MU] tab at the top. All of their settings seem to be correct (they must be if I can see them), and they are running version 4.28. Anyone have any suggestions? There may be a lot of people out there with the same problem (I know 3 personally).

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is that somehow they managed to put themselves into invisible mode. To get out of said mode do a "/mode {NickName} -i". If that doesn't work, I'll try and be on for a while this evening and tommorow evening and see if I can make them appear by voiceing them or something.

Does the IRC not support "." or "_" in player names? When I log in, my screen name Dr._John[MU] is shortened to "Dr". I also tried Dr_John, but I still appear as Dr.

      John

Heres the thing, your IRC nick and your UT nick are seperate things. The first time you connect to IRC it attempts to default to your UT nick. In your case Johnny, it attempted to do "Dr. John", and the answer to your question, is no. It doesn't support ".", it does however support {}[]()<>_^~ , I know there are others but I don't know what all of them are. Anyway, what you need to do is, the next time you connect to IRC type "/nick Dr_John", and your IRC nick will be set to that and stored in the UT ini files. You can also change your UT nick back to "Dr.John".

Just as a note, here are some characters that I know CAN'T be used, "';:.,*#@`/\. I may be wrong on some of those, but that should be close. At any rate, I know the first three type of brackets can be used, as well as underscore. Stick with those and you should be fine.

        Hope that helps

That original prob doesn't sound like they've got set +i, that would just mean that no1 can see them unless they are on a common channel.

It sounds more like they've joined a server which is desynced or about to split off the network completely.
Also, make sure they put the # in front of the [MU]. You don't need to in mIRC, but it most other clients (not sure about UT's client) strange things happen if you don't.

setting yourself +i (/mode nick +i) is always a good idea, your friends already know what your nick is and what chans you visit and people looking to spam ads at every1 can't see you

As to what IRC supports in nicknames, it varies between networks. All support ^ tho
