  • possible problem latest 6.x driver in UT & Dues ex

The problem I was having came when I minimized in UT or dues ex. The game would crash with a critical error. Game play was fine and had no problems.
This problem was bad for me because I need to minimize sometimes to reconnect modem or talk with someone on ICQ.
I tryed to fix the problem several ways but nothing worked so with a little brain storming I realized this started after I loaded the new drivers so I went back to 5.55 and problem is fixed. This maybe an isolated problem with my machine, maybe I have driver conflicts of some type just thought I would post this problem and see if anyone else noticed it.

I had problems with UT and 6.04 drivers too. However, it didn't crash, it was just that after minimizing or going to windowed mode the mouse pointer would be visible in the middle of the screen even after going back to fullscreen. I went back to 6.01 drivers and everything was fine again.

Is this the new certified driver you're referring to?
I have no problems with the 6.01 drivers other than it's a little too dark when playing in a window mode.

I've got a question for you:
I notice that you have the nearly the same mobo (I have BE6), sound (SBLive with FPS2000), and CDROM (Kenwood 52X trueX) combo that I have. Do you ever have any problems with game freezes and sound looping? At times I'm suspicous of compatibiity of these components (mostly the CDROM with SB and Liveware 3.0)

I'm having the same problem Beezer in Windows 2000 and it has been more recent of late. I thought it was my HD connected to the 66 controller...but it isn't. It's NOT the 66 controller. YAY! It's not an IRQ conflict.... I have recently taken my Asus 8x DVD offline and the problem seems to have gone away...... mabye.

Yes it was with the new certified driver I tried the 6.X beta for awhile and did not have this problem. I keep going back to the 5.55 they seem to give me best performance in UT on my system. I may load the drivers again and see what happens.

Beezer, The only time I notice the freezes and soundlooping is when a pregame movie or intro starts I see this most in the intro to Decent 3. Has very cool intro with good sound but is spoiled by bad play back. I like this True x cd rom but it does seem to have a few problems with some types of playback and reading some cd-r discs. Other than this I can not think of any other problem with freezes or sounds looping.

              - no problems with PD 6.04 + UT 428 (minimize)
              - The pointer witch appears after minimizing disappears when you start a match.

That's a good point, Mirp... I'm also using UT version 4.28 with no problems. Dred - You may want to update if you haven't already.

Not sure what equivalent UT engine rev. your Deus Ex is using, but it's problably older than 4.28.
