  • V-Sync oddities

    Hi everyone
I’ve noticed something very strange about v-sync. My rig has a Millenium G200 (8 MB), P-3@450,64 MB PC100 SDRAM, i440zx m/b, Samsung 4.3 GB HDD etc. I get a 3D Mark 99 Max score of 2410 using PD5.41 (V-Sync on). But if I disable V-sync, then the score actually goes down by around 40-50 points! With PD 6.04, the score is lowered to 2390 (V-Sync on) which goes up to 2450 when V-Sync is disabled!!!
Now disabling V-Sync is supposed to actually increase the score or at the most leave it the same, as is displayed in the case of PD 6.04. But why does PD5.41 show the reverse behaviour? I’m baffled!!
Any comments on this would be welcome.
    Cheers
    Ovi

I wouldn´t be very surprised as 3dmark uses triple buffering by default wich gives roughly the same performance as v-sync disabled.

I think 3DMark disables V-Sync by default when it runs tests, regardless of any settings in the registry.
The discrepancy between scores is probably just Mad Onion's little b**tard son being crap and inconsistent.
