  • UT CTF - Wasup?

I was playing CTF the other day for the first time (Facing Worlds). Quite often when I had the enemy flag returned to my base, I was unable to get credit for the capture. I would stand on my flag position in the home base, jump up and down, move around, everything I could think of. Sometimes I would score and half the time, no score. Anyone clue me in on what I did wrong? Sometimes all I had to do was stand there to score and other times I could jump up and down on one foot while whistling Dixie and shooting my rocket launcher into the air. No luck. Arghhh!!!

    Brian,

Unlike TFC, in UT your flag has to be at the cap point for you to get the capture. So it sounds to me like sometimes your flag was there, sometimes not. If you know this, then I have no idea/suggestions.

Practice up and come join the MU clan. A great group of folks to play with.

Isn't the cap point the same each time? Isn't it always the place your flag sits?

Yes, your capture point is where your flag sits.
But if your flag isn't there, you can't cap. You must wait for your flag to be returned.

Ahh yes I see said the blind man. Thanks Kruzin. That explains why there were people running around our base with the opponent's flag.

No problem. THis CTF thing is great fun. I've spent alot of time recently playing this.

Oh yeah, it looks like you also explained it to me Johnny, I just didn't catch your meaning. Thanks.

Another question, what is this "You are protected" message I get after I spawn? I also get unprotected eventually. Is that this transparent effect I see on other players? Are you invulnerable at this point?

Yep. You are invulnerable for a few seconds after a respawn. Sounds like you've been on one of the same servers that I've been at recently, because that behavior is part of a mod that was installed on that server, and not part of the normal game. (Usually you aren't 'protected' when you've respawned, but obviously someone got tired of snipers spawn camping on the CTF-Face map).

Yeah, on that map, the snipers in the opposite tower have a clear shot. I like countersniping in that map.

                      OOoooohh!
                      SPAWN SNIPERS!!!!!
Could there possibly be a lower form of life on the planet? If I could make it a crime punishable by the electric chair I would. Nothing is more annoying than respawning three times in a row and getting killed the second your feet hit the ground.
                      Bunch of pansies!

Without invulnerability, 4 or 5 snipers could depopulate the map.

I can tell you from being around kindness at a few LAN parties he is not very kind to spawn snipers. In fact At our last few get togethers we have had a few teenagers there so we could add a few people. More people more fun. But no matter how many times we told them to stop this sniping activity they continued.

Kindness does not look to good in that shade of RED and those blood vessel popping out do not help his looks either.

fortunately for Kindness they are not coming to the next party.

Couldn't you guys have instituted the mutator to prevent spawn sniping?

I didn't think that we should have had to put on a mutator. There were 13 people at the LAN party, and we would have all had to stop playing and install the mutator to take care of a couple of people trying to get a rise out of someone.
Dred, I don't know if I was that red but I did have thoughts of just walking in there and swithching off a couple of computers (something I wish I could do on line). Plus that is a lot nicer than tossing them out the window (on fire).
