Finally ordered HL

I broke down and bought HL for myself. I've played it before, but have to go buy my own. I want to play CS

So, who's playing CS and TFC out there? Where can I find you guys?

Wombat, let me know when you want to play and we'll hook up. I don't have specific servers I frequent alot, I just go to whatever has a good ping.

LS, I just got finished playing on that server you mentioned. My ping was about 140ms. Not bad, it wasn't laggy but buying weapons was very slow and sometimes that makes or breaks how fast you can get to a key point of the map. btw-I usually try to stick to servers where my average ping is below 100ms.

Dave, you ping 140 because the server is in NYC, and you're in CA. I'm in NYC, so I ping at best 30 to that server (but when it lags, I get 100+). I actually found a server where I had a ping less than 20 (OLA servers). The HL ping counter showed 6

I spend most of my time on Rymatics (sorry, no IP handy) or either of the Ir8 servers. I pop in on the MGI server ocassionally but usually find it deserted.

The key is to find well-admined servers. Too many punk kids playing after school.

People who play on well-admined servers tend to understand the concept of team-play a little better than on most pubs.

Look for servers that start with TPF - that's a loose group of players who subscribe to the 'Team Play First' idea. Makes for much more fun games. Be warned, though - there are quite a few people who have added the tag to make trouble.

I can't help you with CS as I don't play it, but I play TFC nearly every day before my gf gets home.

I'm working on getting onto the Matrox server, since lately there's rarely anyone on the UT side. I thought I'd try the TFC. Just getting together the right files and get them installed.

Other decent servers: [BD] - there's 3 of them. Sillyzone is for screwing around - don't go there for a serious game, but only to mess around.
