  • Issues with G400-CounterStrike-Drivers-Tweak Utility...

    Hey,

I am having some issues with the G400 and Half Life/Counter Strike. Some of this is problably my fault because I'll have everything working fine, but then I'll try a new driver or tweak utility and screw everything up big time. So, on to the problem.

    First, system specs:

    Abit BH6, Celeron 450, 256MB RAM, IBM 30GB HDD, G400, Vortex2.

    1. OK, I did a clean install of windows and used the 5.52 drivers. Had HL and counterstrike working great. Then i went and used that new tweak utility that matrox released last week. I set it to the speed settings in OpenGL and rebooted. Upon starting half life at 1024x768, the game reported that my video card doesn't support that mode. Well, it didn't work in any mode in OpenGL. D3D works fine (but who wants to use that?). So I set the utitily to the quality mode and rebooted. Still the same problem. So then I set it back to default mode and rebooted. Still doesn't work. Anyone have a clue how I can fix this without reformatting and installing?

    2. This is just a side issue and not that big a deal, but I thought i'd give it go. Before I got my new HDD i was using the 6.xx series of drivers. The beta's and then finally the final version. Everyone of them caused HL to act up. The game would start in openGL mode, but the top left corner was blocked by the half life menu, but all garbled up. In the rest of the screen I could see the game fine.

I thought that maybe some of the 5.xx series of drivers were left over and causing problems. So when I got my new drive, I did a clean windows install with the 6 final drivers and same thing. I put on 5.52 and all is well (until that tweak util of course ). So why don't any of the 6.xx drivers work in half life for me?

Thanks in advance ya'll... I'll be playing CS in D3D and waiting for ya'lls help.

I have exactly the same problem. If I manually start HL/TFC, when I get into the game, I too have the menus sitting in the top left, with the rest of the game going on around it.

I have found that exiting to the menu, and then resuming the game generally sorts it out.

I also find that if I use GameSpy to find a server, and let it start up HL/TFC for me, the problem doesn't occur.

You don't say what OS you have, but I think the 5.52 drivers are for 9x yes?

So other than that I can't help really, as I use the latest certified drivers under Win2k, and stuff is generally fine.

I've recently wiped my machine, and haven't gottan around to re-installing HL yet, but I'm not expecting to run into any problems.

      Thanks for the reply.

Yes I am using Win9x. I am dual booting with win2000, but my machine isn't fast enough to game in 2000.

Just as an add on, I got mdk2 today and it is giving me the same problem. Even worse, D3D isn't working for mdk2 either. What have I done that is so bad?

I swear, once i get this working again, i will never use these tweak utils again. I just hope I don't have to reformat and reinstall to get it worked out.

        Update:

Ok, I used the matrox uninstall utility and reinstalled the 5.52 drives and all is well in openGL land again. Thanks for the help. :P

Anyone else having the problem bursar and I are having with the menu during the game? It appears to be happening in 9x and 2000.

I'm having sort of the same problems (garbled menu in top left corner) in openGL AND in D3D. In OGL (1024x786) it only happens when i create an lan game. In fact i can't create/start an server in ogl mode, HL crashes. In D3D i also see the same garbled menu in top left when starting/creating an lan game, but it doesn't crash and i can play.

Normal i-net gaming works fine in OGL, except for a few things you have to know. I found out that when you join an server and get an server full error or couldnot connect error during serverload, you have to go back al the menu's till the start menu or else HL crashes when joining an server for the second time.
