Hmmm...I've been playing for quite a while, and the only time cheating has came up is when Kruzin or I stomp somebody so badly, they assume we are cheating. I don't think that cheating is a problem. I think the problem is there are some good players out there, and some don't understand just how good they are.

BTW, what's wrong with the engineer class? I still play engy and still whoop ass for the most part, and Kruzin does more so. I don't think it's a weak class at all.

Engys are much more potent when they work in pair, or even better trios. But even alone, they can do much damage if they know how to handle their weapons.

And God help the commie reds that have to face me and Rags when we get together as a pair of engys, or me as an engy, and Rags as a scout to uncover the spys as they run past my sentry gun

All the time I've played either TFC or CS, I have only seen cheating two or three times. I've played TFC since it came out, I've played CS at beta 2, about a couple months after first release.

Playing as an engineer is fun, but I'm screwed when I'm out of EMPs and/or grenades

There's a lot of cheating in CS. Some people are good, but I've been killed by people using wall hacks, and it's obvious that there is a cheat that disables the FB effect, and there are aimbots and proxy servers out there, and my friend and a few other "ghosts" watched as a player changed skin from T to CT.

Well, I've been playing CS for about 3 weeks now and I finally went out and found some of the cheats. Most seem to be bugs in the game that people figure out how to use but some are more then that. A friend and I have been playing together and watching the good players to try and get better ourselves. We notice that most of the time (not all) if the good player is in the >40 kills and <10 deaths range then they are cheeting. I have seen about 50 of them in the last few weeks and watched as they stoped short of the ambush backed up and started moving in another direction. Then stop and look around watching the other players to get in to the perfect position to kill one then move on repeating the process. Other times they shoot through objects that no one else can(I tried while a friend stood on the other side). Mostly shooting at people that they should have no knowledge of. For the most part they end up getting voted off the server so it is not as big a deal as in TFC. It would be cool if they (valve) added player booting to TFC and TF2.

              Later all,

              Jeff

cheating always has been a big issue in online fps multiplayer games, since quakeworld.

Quake3Arena has a kind of super-restricted mode called "Pure server", but that too has been hacked. iD has fixed the hacks in a point-release, but that one is still very beta.

I hope they release a final version of that pointrelease soon, and I hope that mods like CS and TFC wil be ported to Q3A.

Well, in QW and TF people were concerned about teamplay not cheating... hehe ;-)
                  As for CS... I get 25 kills and 5 deaths often. I don't cheat. I have 20ms ping ;-)

Thats a good score I don't have a problem with that. I have a problem with www.cscheaters.com where you can get wall hacks, aimbots and other little helpers. That is the stuff that is pissing me off.

That link didn't work for me. I'd kind of like to know what's out there. "Know thy enemy" and all that. I hope it will reduce the number of times I think someone is cheating.

Oh, there were plenty of cheating and bug exploiting going on in the QWTF days too.

Invisible and invincible medics infecting people and stuff like that. I actually have a fond memory of that one as I came across someone using it while playing town2. I still miss that map. And town4 even more.

The original hunted was such a badly made and ugly map (well so was the original 2fort too) but they were a real blast to play. Even being engineers or spies on hunted because the map was made before those classes appeared and thus weren't disabled was lots of fun.

Those and some other maps were so much fun. Valve really killed user made maps with TFC when they included their own official ones.
