Is there an official page yet or is that just not finished yet? I already checked http://www.microsoft.com/directx/default.asp

      PR-Man...

If you had followed the numerous threads on here and elsewhere over the past couple of months, you would know the following:

      1. DX8 does next-to-nothing for Win9x. Apparently nobody has released DX8 certified drivers yet, and even if they did the Win9x DX builds are pretty tight and bug-free so no real speed gains there.

      2. On Win2k, it brings your DX speeds back in line with Win9x, due to fixing some bugs in MS's code. It also enables (for whatever reason) hardware buffers on the SB Live! cards. This is probably a result of Creative doing early coding for DX8, or relying on something that wasn't up to par in the Win2k version of DX7.

Overall, not a bad thing to install, but not super-useful for Win9x folks.

Really? What do you mean by "bug free?"

        I got a bug in Quake1 and a different one in Half-Life.

Funny. I used DX to play Half-Life/TFC/Counterstirke and Quake.

In any case, if you are considering what they started out as:
Quake is software and Half-Life is Software, DX, and OpenGL.

Bugs in the HL DirectX implementation aren't Matrox' fault, and many people have it running flawlessly so I'm guessing you have an incorrectly patched version or some other problem.

And Quake 1... err... umm... that's a whole other bag of worms, since it wasn't really written for OpenGL at all but for OpenGL wrappers, and if you want to get that working, I suggest starting a new thread and asking for tips - or running a forum search since it's been gone over a few times already.
