Hi!
All I can say is that the G400 will has been able to run all the games I have thrown at it except Icewind Dale from Interplay. It runs but locks up whenever I try to create or join a multiplayer game. But then again I'm not sure if this problem is the fault of my G400...
Otherwise the 200+ games I have thrown at it work like a charm
The G400 is not the fastest card on the market, but if you are looking for superb image quality in both 2d and 3d, the G400 is now a super sollution at a good price. I own the regular G400 32Mb dualhead version, and I just love this card.
I could go on for hours. The TV-output through the SVHS cable is just simply the best I have seen. The "allmost" hardware DVD decompression of the chip, and off course the ability to use 2 seperate desktops on different monitors is nice too.
Good luck in chosing. I know it's a jungle out there.
Regards,
Jake

You must understand that technical forums are here for those trying to solve problems. This is true of every similar type of forum. People are just too content to play and not post once we help them get that nasty taken care of"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss
"Always do good. It will gratify some and astonish the rest." ~Mark Twain

I think the earlier post just about sums it up.
This is a support forum, hence people post problems.
When you compare the amount of G400's sold to the amount of people actually reporting problems, you'lll see it's a very small percentage.
The G400 might not be the fastest card around, but I think I can safely say that it runs 90-95% if not higher of the things I throw at it.
NVidia on the other hand.
They might have the fastest cards, but they seem to have no end of problems with drivers and compatibility issues.
Driver releases seem to be on a near weekly system, and some games work with older drivers but not newer, while others work with newer drivers not older etc.
To be honest I think the trade-off for not having the fastest card in the world is a good one, because I do have quite stable and compatible drivers. It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.
Trolls might not be quick thinkers but they don't forget in a hurry, either

Never had anything that did not run on my G400 (or my G200 for that matter). Of course it does not have Glide support or HW T&L, but it does have hardware EMBM. Everything works well, looks great and is more than adequate in the speed dept. And I have a slower processor.
All the best

I have posted several times here looking for answers with problems when trying to run some games on my Marvel G400. While I still have a few problems I am unable to fix/find what the problem is, I did find out that since I have several programs loaded for doing video work with the Marvel G400, it appears that one of the problems may have been an Adobe program where the fonts in it may have caused my some game problems, while the program was not running, some files that it installed had somnething to do with how my computet acts. I suspect that some of the video making and working programs, that I use with my Marvel may have adverse affects on loading and running some games. Also, my Directx AGP Texture 'test' does not work, nor my Hibernation software abilities are not working. I suspect that the drivers are still buggy, as Matrox still has not released a Certified driver for the card. But it appears that the card and drivers and software do work good on just about everything, and it may be other software loaded in the computer that hampers some games from running correctly, and/or maybe the Creative Live Sound Card may also have a hand in some of these problems. The problem is when you have a computer and hard drive full of tons of applications, it's really hard to root though it all and find out which program and software is wacking something else.

Addition 12/9/00
I took out the 6.10 drivers with my Marvel G400, I put in the 5.55 drivers, I now lost the ability to run Falcon 4 flight sim, The 6.10 were not meant and supported for the Marvel, but the 5.55 suck.

Compatability I've never really had a problem with on my G400. Most of the time it seems to be either minor teething problems on the latest games. Which is usually common with the non-top-two video chip/cards; Or some initial quirks. The initial quirk was of course the Via MVP3 agp issue. Which has effected many a card since. As greebe said, most people get the issue fixed, and go on playing. They don't reply back going "Hey thanx for the fix."
In the end just look at it this way, your tossing together 10-20 parts easy from 5-20 different makers, with different drivers, (usually) under a notoriously buggy OS. Thats a lot of unstable variables right there. Plus new technology always has bugs or quirks to it (not saying G400 is new but some parts of your PC might be brand new). All in all I see matrox as a very stable card that almost never causes me any problems.
