If 5.55 is giving you problems in BG2, then go to 6.04, 6.01 is very broken for OpenGL support.

In 2D this value is 60

I've tried to edit and of course save it to 85, but it reverts to its default.
Do what does your "after" mean?
Thanks

What I meant is that for me, changing the value did nothing for the first run of the game, which automatically set it to 60. After the first run through the game, I set the value to 85 and was a happy camper. This was necessary on both my G400 and my wife's TNT2 - although we're both running under Win2k which might have some bearing on the matter.

To revive an old thread...has anyone had any luck getting Baldur's Gate 2 working in 3D mode under win2k with a G400 Max?
Seems like this thread is just about 98 or ME...
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Lots of us have Win2k. BG2 runs just fine.

Mind giving any specific details? What res/color depth? Latest powerdesk drivers? Or the certified ones?
I have tried lots of combinations with no luck yet to get 3D to work. It starts, just a black screen, then quits back to the desktop...

Just works with the 5.14 and up drivers.
'Course that's on my machine. I know some people were still having trouble, can't recall their solution. Have you checked the Matrox forums yet? There were a lot of posts about BG2 over there.

Sorry, but win2k and BG2 3D is not working well for me. I get messed up loading screens like this one and the overall game runs much slower (scrolling around the map is noticably bad).My setup:
Windows2000 SP1
G400 16meg
latest G400 drivers for w2k (5.20)

I've got the same problem with my system. Pentium 500, 128 Meg RAM, G400 32 Meg, Windows 2000 SP1.
When the game is set to use 3d acceration it starts to a blank screen and then dumps you back out to the desktop. I'm also using the 5.20.16 version of the G400 drivers.
Any ideas anyone? Please...

Here's what I've found out from Matrox. There appears to be a problem with "bit map caching" when using the G400 and OpenGL drivers with Windows2000.
Matrox suggested I use their Tweak Utility http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/dr.../ftp_util2.cfm to disable "bit map caching".
I tried the tweak utility to disable the "bit map caching" option. Disabling the "bit map caching" DID allow me to successfully select and use the "3D Acceleration" option in the Baldur's Gate II, but it did appear to reduce the grandeur of the 3D effects in the game (I tested spells primarily).
Someone else should give it a try to see if they experience the same result.
Hopefully Matrox will correct this in a future release of their G400/Windows2000 driver.
Regards,
John

I wonder what the issue is? It works fine for some of us (has since the game was released) but not for others. The fade mode bug (scene fades) is fixable with the page flipping (disable it), and the corrupted loading screens were fixed in the 5.20 drivers (maybe even the 5.14's).
The other problems seem to only happen on some systems. My machine, on which it works fine, is:
Dual Celeron-533's @ 600
512MB Corsair PC133 (CL3@CL2)
WD 40GB Ultra100
IBM 20GB Ultra66
Abit BP6
G400 32mb dualhead (non-max)
SB Live!
Winnov Videum PCI vidcap/camera
3Com 3c905b NIC
Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI
Plextor 12x SCSI burner
Toshiba 5x SCSI DVD

I have some corrupted text with the game, and a little bit of corruption on some textures at the screen edges (but that one is due to vsync being off).
Do you think enabling vsync will fix that? I'm using the PD6.10 drivers on Win98SE. No problems with other games at all.

When using pd6.10 I have no corruption whatsoever, you might want to enable vsync.

History:
Put in a new hard drive, CDROM, formatted, virgin install of Win98se and G400 6.04 drivers. Flashed that darn P3BF BIOS to 1006.
Baldurs Gate 2 ( with or without patch):
2D is exquisite even at 1024x768x32
I configured to 3d for a mid range computer,
800X600X16 or X32. Hit play. I can hear the CDROM accessing, the BG start menu minimizes and then the screen goes black. Then the minimized tab disappears and I'm back to a fully operational desk top.
Tried with a new game, previous saves, with the patch.
Tried Matrox Tweak ver 3.0, AGPx1, vflip off/on, accuracy/speed. Still wont load.

I know basically that ACPI is for power mangement.
With the flashed BIOS and a new install of Win98se, the ACPI appears.
Could this be effecting OpenGl?

Yea, I've been busy, havn't had a chance to revisit this one. Ok, IRQs are NOT shared. Hardware information is as follows:
Matrox G400 MAX, not overclocked
Powerdesk 6.10.013
Asus K7M motherboard(has a hybrid AMD 751/VIA chipset usage)
Sound Blaster Live with Liveware 3.0
Windows Millenium Edition
No shared IRQs are being used, I was careful about this one.
When I try to run in hardware mode, I find that things get very granular, it's almost like it's in 8 or 16 bit color mode when the game is set to use 32 bit color. I just don't get the distortion effects.
Software mode looks MUCH MUCH MUCH better.
Considering that the ONLY use of OpenGL is for the lighting effects(the rest is really just using software rendering), there isn't much reason for the problem except the OpenGL support being horrible. Since others have had this problem for a LONG time now, I'd say it's not just my setup, but something broken in the drivers. It MAY be related to the cut scenes showing in 8 bit color mode as well. And yes, I tried backward compatability=1, no difference at ALL.
