  • Where can I play Quake Arena Online for free?

Just wandering; it would be fun to fight real people...is there a free service and how does it work?

I'm going to be very gentle.

    Step 1: Start Quake 3.
    Step 2: Pick "multiplayer game"
Step 3: Look at all the fun online games you can join! Woo!

    - Gurm

    P.S. Yes, they're all free.

When you log onto a server, your CDkey is checked to make sure it's valid.
If it's a fake CDkey, or if that same CDkey is in already use, it won't let you play.
This usually happens with illegal warez copies of the game. If you didn't buy it, you're not gonna get away with playing on line. If you did buy the game, it may need a re-install.

Continuing to be very gentle ...

Look at the back of your Q3A jewell case. You'll find a sticker with a 16 digit code printed on it. Go into Setup in Q3A and select CD Key. Enter the code that you located on the jewell case. Tada!!!

If you didn't purchase the game and retain the jewell case then no on-line gaming for you.

Are you absolutely sure that nobody you know copied your key? (they are pretty 'wanted' you know).

I used to get a lot of 'CLIENT_UNKNOWN_TO_AUTH' error messages, but that was cause by some bug in q3a itself, and there was a workaround for that issue. However, if I use that workaround, I do sometimes get the 'CD Key invalid' and 'Mistyped CD-Key?????' errors... however, if I just wait 10 minutes, everything works fine again.

no wrap! only means one thing, someone bought it, copied the cd-key number down and returned it to the store...

NEVER buy software like that, thats the worst thing you can do...

You don't have a stolen id problem. You would get a "CD-Key is in use" message if someone else was using the same id as you. You may have a corrupted base3/q3config.cfg file. You can delete the existing one and Q3A will create a default one for you. You'll have to reenter the id and setup configuration. I have on occasion seen "CLIENT_UNKNOWN_TO_AUTH" and invalid id messages that either go away in a few seconds or I'll exit the game and restart w/o any problems.
