Glad the fight's over, but did anyone else notice this from Galvin on p2....?
I know, I know, Galvin has smelled the coffee, and this has been said in various ways throughout the thread, but I just want to say it all in one go, in small words, just in case. Or maybe because I like to talk .
Galvin, you have two sets of problems in your PC. You personally have a system problem (or several), which may or may not affect the problems that you are experiencing in Q3, some of which others are experiencing as well. But until you solve the problems in your system, it is not possible to say just what is causing the problems in Q3.
Think of it this way: if your TV suddenly stopped displaying a picture, you wouldn't be able to say why immediately. You would first have to confirm that the power was still on (easy enough if the lights haven't gone out), then that the transmitter was still operating (by changing the channel, or turning on another TV). Only when you knew that both the power and the transmitter were working could you say "something is wrong with my TV"-- but then you'd still have to find out what and fix it. Of course, it could also happen that the power went out, but there was something wrong with your TV that hadn't quite failed yet, but was hidden by the fact that the power went out (this time).
The point is, when you say that you did a clean install of Windows, and installing your video card drivers causes enough instability to erase your mouse cursor, I already know several things:

You have a fundamental configuration problem of some sort, since I assume you only had the OS and video card installed.
It's most likely to be a HW/BIOS config issue, if not some piece of flat-out bad hardware, but it might be the OS install was bad as well... I do wonder if you have a clean version of Win2k.
The Matrox driver install was probably bad/incomplete if the OS wasn't working properly (which it seems clearly true), which could only make your Q3 issues worse.
No one can possibly tell you how to solve your Q3 problems--or even what they are, or which ones are driver-related-- until the problems in your system are eliminated.
So please do that first.
I know that reinstalling Windows clean is a pain (done that twice in the past month myself and still haven't recovered ), but have you tried removing all your devices in the Device Manager and letting Windows reinstall them (with PnPOS ON)? That might save you from a total reinstall of Windows....
Just a concept.
