Glad the fight's over, but did anyone else notice this from Galvin on p2....?
Well I did way Rags said I installed win2K with "standard PC" but this caused some problems, first which when I installed my G400 drivers my mouse dissapeared, I had no mouse cursor
I know, I know, Galvin has smelled the coffee, and this has been said in various ways throughout the thread, but I just want to say it all in one go, in small words, just in case. Or maybe because I like to talk .

Galvin, you have two sets of problems in your PC. You personally have a system problem (or several), which may or may not affect the problems that you are experiencing in Q3, some of which others are experiencing as well. But until you solve the problems in your system, it is not possible to say just what is causing the problems in Q3.

Think of it this way: if your TV suddenly stopped displaying a picture, you wouldn't be able to say why immediately. You would first have to confirm that the power was still on (easy enough if the lights haven't gone out), then that the transmitter was still operating (by changing the channel, or turning on another TV). Only when you knew that both the power and the transmitter were working could you say "something is wrong with my TV"-- but then you'd still have to find out what and fix it. Of course, it could also happen that the power went out, but there was something wrong with your TV that hadn't quite failed yet, but was hidden by the fact that the power went out (this time).

The point is, when you say that you did a clean install of Windows, and installing your video card drivers causes enough instability to erase your mouse cursor, I already know several things:

You have a fundamental configuration problem of some sort, since I assume you only had the OS and video card installed.
It's most likely to be a HW/BIOS config issue, if not some piece of flat-out bad hardware, but it might be the OS install was bad as well... I do wonder if you have a clean version of Win2k.
The Matrox driver install was probably bad/incomplete if the OS wasn't working properly (which it seems clearly true), which could only make your Q3 issues worse.
No one can possibly tell you how to solve your Q3 problems--or even what they are, or which ones are driver-related-- until the problems in your system are eliminated.

    So please do that first.

I know that reinstalling Windows clean is a pain (done that twice in the past month myself and still haven't recovered ), but have you tried removing all your devices in the Device Manager and letting Windows reinstall them (with PnPOS ON)? That might save you from a total reinstall of Windows....

    Just a concept.

Well I was hoping this thread would die.
      Long live the Thread, heh.
But anyways to answer your question about the mouse dissapearing issue. First I had to press F5 during install to bring up a screen which had different installs, I looked for the Standard PC and used that. What I noticed was that for some reason win2K when fully installed was trying to install a PS/2 mouse driver even though I don't have such a mouse. I have a USB mouse. Also I noticed that the IRQ's the mouse and video card were the same, actually I checked this before I installed the G400 drivers. So the mouse dissapeared I said that's interesting. I rebooted, turned off PnP in the bios rebooted and noticed the mouse was no longer using the same IRQ as the G400 so the mouse started working again. But the idea of the OS trying to load a PS/2 mouse when I didn't have one connected didn't sit well with me it told me that this configuration wasn't working as well as it should be, so after messing around with for 8 hours I cloned my OS off of the 15gig to the 30gig after that I had an MFT error in chkdsk which is fixed now but that took an hour

With my current configuration the correctt drivers get loaded, PS/2 doesn't get loaded since I don't have a mouse attached to the port. PnP OS is turned to on. ASUS has been releasing a new final bios around every 2 months. Also I'll keep checking their website for any new driver releases or bios releases, who knows the problem may go away when I get the rumored G800. The lockup only happens in one game, and the more I thought about it, I said it's not worth changing my whole system for one game with a lockup that only happen 1 to 0 times per week. Thanks for the suggestions though

I must admit that there are several things that would concern me in your story if it was my PC.... but it's not.

So if you're OK with it, I'm happy for you.

        Best of luck

Windows (at least 98) won't detect the USB mouse during the initial OS installation fase (when you select wich WIN components you want to install). It won't detect it when it first boots, thus the message it cannnot detect a mouse. Only after it installs the chipset drivers and you're promted to restart for them to take effect (and you restart) can it detect the USB mouse.

Holy smokes!!!!! Look at this thread!!!!

I hear the next MicroSoft Service Pack will fix all these Bugs. It will consist of a single Supository, shaped in the likeness of Bill Gates. Just pop it in and all the systems you touch for the rest of the day will Reformat and Reinstall their OS's and run perfectly.

I have a CUSL2-C with a PIII 933. I suspect BIOS Ver. 1003 is a bit wonkie. I also suspect Intel's drivers leave something to be desired as well.

There is a beta version of the 1005 BIOS for the CUSL2/CUSL2-C on Asus's German FTP site (1005 Beta 4). I'm not recommeding you try it. I'm just saying a new, final BIOS update, and hopefully relief, is on the way.
