  • Collin Mcrae Rally 2.0 & Bumpmapping

Another bumpmapped game you can add to the list Yesterday when I was checking the Advanced GFX options of this game I found that an option called Enviroment Map, wich has 4 Settings.
    1. Off (none)
    2. Standard (Standard Enviroment Mapping)
    3. Bump (Enviromental Bump Mapping, Didn't work on my GTS)
    4. Cubic (Didn't work om my G400, but it did on my Geforce2 GTS)
The ingame difference isn't really that big (except when you set it off) but I'll take some screenshots if you want (just reply).
Oh another thing... Performace I horrible, the game stutters and the framerate is pretty low. I tried on 2 systems: P3-550 @ 800 with 196MB Ram & a Geforce 2 GTS, and a Celly 600 @ 900 with 128MB Ram & a G400 32MB Dualhead, even with a detail levels down it still stutters from time to time, wich makes it a little hard to get past difficult corners and this with the 610MB install!!
This is something what makes me wonder, if the game developers implented this kewl features (bump mapping that is), they must have playtested it on a G400, so unless they tested it on a 1GHz P3 or Athlon with 256MB ram they must of seen that performance is below par. So why release a game that isn't smooth?? who likes to play something like that? not me...
Well enough complaining from me, reply to this thread or message me if you want some screenies of this game.

    Yes, please ...

I'd especially see comparisons between Cubic & Bump.

      Okay made a little comparision...

      check it out
      http://users.skynet.be/bk239192/Collin2/collin.asp

The only difference I notice is the shading of the cars, in particular the windows.
I'll play a little more around with the game to see if I can get some better screenshots.

            Hey Guys,
I checked out the demo today (still waiting for retail). I didn't see that much problem at 1024x768x32 except that the mip-mapping, have you tried it with trilinear on?
As for EMBM, for what i saw when you smash the car look at the glass, it is more realistic with EMBM then when it's off, but it's a bit subtle, the screenshots you showed doesn't show it until you smash the car

            Regards,

Well R0M you're absolutely right if you crash the car the difference become alot clearer, a little stupid of me that I didn't test it before posting those pics.. hehe so if there's still people instrested in seeing some pics of this you know what to do it will take me a couple of days since I had to uninstall the game to make some diskspace but my new 30GB will arrive any day now
