  • Quake3 OGL performance on win2K and Win98

    I am curious as to how much of a performance loss win2K users are losing on their Matrox G400 cards in OGL. I'm not talking about MAX, just regular 32meg card. Is it 10fps, 20fps, or 30fps or even more ?
    System:
    P3-700
    Windows 2000
    256megs of ram.
    AGP 2x
    Current quake3 settings:
    All settings set to max except for the following:
    Bilinear
    16bit zbuffer/16bit textures.
    800x600

    With timedemo set to 1 and runing demo001
    I get 55 fps.

    If someone can do a benchmark using both versions of windows using same clock speed
    please post here.

    These benchmarks are a little old (I just reinstalled W2k and did alot of tweaks but they are roughly the same as current):

    These benchmarks were taken by first deleting the Q3config.cfg in the baseq3 directory and then changing all the detail settings to the MAX.

    My system
    P3550@630 115mhz * 5.5
    Matrox G400 32m AGP OEM not overclocked
    5.04 drivers
    128M PC100 Generic
    Windows 2000 Pro

    32bit

    640X480= 46.3
    512X384= 50.8

      All of this was with a 16b Zbuffer....I would say your scores look just about right. Do a little tweaking,overclocking and you should be able to go a little higher.

        I would post Windows ME scores but I wiped that POS off of my HD once I discoverd that I can not do alot of the stuff that I can do in 98. I can do everything I like to do in 2000 no more crappy W9x os's for me!

              On my ol' G400 I had the same FPS in both W2K and 98. Quake 3 1.17 1024X768 32bc All settings to max=20fps.

              That was a couple of months ago tho so it might be faster now (doubt it).

              Here are my Geforce 2 GTS 64m scores.

              =XXfps. (Removed for jealous Gx00 users -ED)
