  • Opengl in Bg2 under Win98

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now ive read alot of posts regarding workarounds and drivers to use to get opengl working in BG2, but they all seem to be about Win2k. Does nobody else have a problem with it under 98 ? Every time i try it everything is in 8 bit colour, and seems slower than 2d!
Ive tried drivers 6.04. 6.10 and 6.21 (which im using now). I use the uninstaller and have no turboGl files on my system.
    cpu : p3450
    MB : Abit BX6
    128 mb ram
G400 MAX running at 2x agp on irq 5 (i know, i know but its not sharing with anything and its always worked fine there)
    Creative Sb 64 pci
    Netgear nic
    Windows 98 Sp1 with dx8
This is the only gripe i have with my G400, it does everything else well.
Thanks for any help you guys can give

You probably missed my post so here's what you need to do, get the Matrox Tweak util and select "Optimize for Accuracy" to get the true textures it needs. Make sure you use 6.21 drivers,

    Good luck to you!

Yeah, I got it to run pretty well in 98SE with my MAX actually. I made sure the 'backwards3dcompatibility' setting or whatever its called in the baldur.ini file was set to 0, even though the BG2 readme said to set to 1 for the Matrox cards. Much better performance with it set to 0. I had a little texture corruption with optimise for speed, but with accuracy its perfect, and still faster than with that bit set to 1.

Yeah the backwards compatibility thinger does a lot of the work in software, then only sends it to the card for a final pass. It's unnecessary, too. I don't know which driver set they were testing with when they wrote that readme, but it wasn't anything recent.
