Colin McRae 2 Hangs randomly

Any Thoughts on the following
Colin McRae randomly hangs this happens in demo mode, during game replays and at the start of a rally. Sometimes I can get around a rally championship Stage once or twice but then everything locks up. The only solution is to power on and off, not good.

Windows ME
AMD-K7(tm) Processor AuthenticAMD ~700 Mhz
Memory 128
Matrox Millennium G400 (driver 6.21.003)
DirectX 8
Soundblaster Live (latest drivers)

1) Do you use a Force Feedback Steering Wheel or any control device on the USB ports

2) Do you get EXCEPTION 0x0000001E KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED type of error on the BlueScreenOfDeath ? If not, do you get any error messages ?

3) Just prior to hangup do you get corrupted graphics on the screen ?

Your symptoms are different then mine. I suggest you write to the technical support at codemasters.com site. I have already done that. This problem might not be G400 specific.

1: No USB devices attached, I do use force feed back wheel attached to the gameport on sound card
2: No error messages justs a drooning noise form sound card
3: No corrupted screen just locks up

That's exactly what I had and I use guillemot FF wheel connected to my usb. Put all your car's details to low and get the 4.28 4in1.

I had random lockups now and then with various games, but CMR2 was the first game that locked up every time. I found out that my G400 wasn't stable at AGP2X, probably due to bad seating. Forcing AGP1X solved this altogether. CMR2 seemed to stress this much more than previous games.
So you might want to try lowering the AGP speed to find out if that's the problem.

'Twas playing Colin McRae 2 multiplsyer last weekend on my G400 under windows 2000 on a 6ft screen - didn't have a single lock up or anything...
