  • UT Processor Benchmarks

I've been trying to find benchmarks with the latest processors/mobos for UT, but haven't had any luck.

(Reason: Want to see what an upgrade from my classic Athlon 750 to a 1.2 Thunderbird will do)

    Anyone?

So far, these are the only updated benchmarks I've found:

        Hi Greebe,

Thanks for taking the time to humor me

        1. Wrong Forum? Doesn't UT performance apply to Matrox Gaming? From what I've gathered a good handful of murcers thoroughly enjoy UT. I believed some of these individuals would be interested in what kind of performance benefits they could expect from the new gigahertz processors out there. (Considering that they are so nicely priced )
        2. I am not sure what you're hitting at here... would you prefer that I save convert gif's into jpg's then post them? or that I am posting material from Tom's?

The point of this whole post is to help me (and other murcers) get some information on how much more enjoyable UT would be with an upgraded processor. Although there are a ton of new games, 99% of my gaming time is spent on UT or Tactical Ops (UT mod).

So, UT benchmarking isn't a waste if the purpose is to find out how much better a processor upgrade will do in UT.

As I stated earlier, I've been trying to find benchmarks that will help me decide if spending $100-150 for a processor upgrade will give me $100-150 more enjoyment from UT. Unfortunately, Tom's Hardware has the only benchmarks which I was able to find that show recent UT benchmarks using up-to-date processors.

I posted in the Matrox Forums in general because I thought all those fanatical UT murcers would be able to point me to additional information.

Hope this clears up my post!

i think with "wrong forum" he meant that you should have posted this in the benchmark forum

I was under the impression that the Benchmark forum was geared toward optimizing Gx00 performance in Benchmarks and/or showing off Gx00 Benchmark scores...

Feel free to relocate the post there, looks like Topha's "Anyone got Benchmark with PD 6.50?" is looking lonely

              Just my little experience:

              P3@600 MHZ: 54 FPS
              P3@800 MHZ: 70 FPS

This was tested at 1024x768 32 Bit with GF2 GTS 32 MB in Cityintro. It's higher in actual matches.
If your Video card is powerful enough, you should get more than 90 FPS with Gigahert CPU.
You can go to PlanetUnreal's Forum and look for a post about Cityintro benchmark. That's a huge post of all types of configuration. Sorry I can't find the link of that post but you can look for it in the forum:

What do GeFarce benchmarks have to do with proformance of a Matrox Gx00, ehhh?

Sorry. I just wanted to contribute my little experience to the post. What I wanted to show was not my GF2 but how upgrading to a Ghz CPU can improve UT performance...
                  Really sorry....................

I'm not sure if your matrox cards support dxt1 or s3tc texture compression or not?
If they do installing dx8 and installing the
UT textures from the second cd can make for a
sweet increase in fps and it looks even better to boot. I'm able to run compressed textures in both d3d and opengl on my Radeon and man what a difference, can adjust the brightness now so that no one can hide in the shadows especially in opengl!

Is your D3D or GL performance better on a radeon?

Actually that question has an interesting answer. At 1024x768x32 both d3d and opengl are roughly on par, when I up the res to
1280x1024x32 I get a significant drop in open gl but the d3d mode has almost no change whatsoever in fps. Weird.

                          I just recently upgraded my cpu from a 450 to 850MHz PIII. I'm using a vanilla G400 32MB card.
Surprisingly, I saw very little increase in fps at 1024x768x32 -- about 35 to 40 fps with most everything set to high except "detail textures". At 800x600 I am getting about 70 fps which I believe is quite a bit better than my 450 cpu would give me, but I never really kept track to know for sure.
Since I have a 19" monitor, I really prefer to play at the 1024x768 res.

Beezer, that means your video card is the bottleneck. In 1024x768x32bit colour running the Loki OpenGL and s3tc (texture compression turned on) I avg 66 fps in UT and 78 fps in plain old d3d. My cpu speed is very close to yours.

Beezer, try 960x720 for UT. Looks much better than 800x600 but it is not as slow as 1024x768.
