    Yes it'll work, but depending on your overall hardware configuration you may need to drop it back to AGP 1x with MTST Utility 4.18 (no real proformance is lost)

        Recently I ran 3DMark2000 benchmark with my K6-2/500, 128 MB and i740. At 640x480 the score was 1170 and at 1024x768 660. I checked the MadOnion.com database and (surprisingly) I found a couple of computers with G450 and K6-2 (but they had only 64 MB). The score was over 1500 at 1024x768. I also checked Geforce2 MX score and it was double compared to G450 (on the same type of machine, of course)... What should I think of this? Or should I?

          The Geforce 2 Mx is faster than the G450, no doubt about that, the image produced by the Matrox card looks heaps better though.

            For what I've read and heard they don't have THAT much difference, but I guess MX users have spread this type of "information".

              Here is a little price listing:
              [I presume 1 USD = 6,13 FIM]

              * Asus V7100T (MX), 32 MB SDRAM, TV-OUT
              - Verkkokauppa.com 918 FIM = 149,5 USD
              - DataInfo 1090 FIM = 178 USD
              - Bulldog Netstore 955 FIM = 156 USD

              * The cheapest MX card, 32 MB SDRAM
              - Verkkokauppa.com (no TV) 719 FIM = 117 USD
              - Computeria (TV/no TV) 649/699 FIM = 106/114 USD

              * Matrox G450, 32 MB DDR, DualHead
              - Verkkokauppa.com 760 FIM = 124 USD
              - DataInfo hasn't it,
              Telering 990 FIM = 162 USD
              - Bulldog Netstore 1144 FIM = 186,5 USD

              Verkkokauppa.com is Finland's (in my opinion) the best and the cheapest netstore. DataInfo and Telering can be found where I live (in Vammala, which is a pretty small town). Bulldog Netstore is a moderately cheap netstore, which I sometimes have used. Computeria is sometimes too pricy but sometimes relatively cheap.

              The numbers speak for themselves!

              BTW Where is this server? Based on the local time in Finland and the server's time it's about three hours westwards from Finland. (But there's only an ocean there!)

                based on these prices and the info about how you'd use your card i'd definitely say get the g450, since it's good enough for a quick game here and then, it's got dualhead (tvout is NOT dualhead, TwinView is what they want to be like dualhead), it's got decent linux support (i think, and granted, the mx got linux drivers too), and it's got better image quality.

                besides, once games start using dx8, neither the mx nor the g450 nor a gf2 ultra wouldn't do any good, just the radeon would (and the gf3, but i don't consider it an option), and ati's driver reputation is less than stellar (see the win2k performance numbers)..

                so, get that g450

                  I didn't say TV-Out is DualHead. nVidia says so. TV-Out function is a part of TwinView; if I wanted to use two monitors with MX, I'd have to buy a card without TV-Out (eg. Asus V7100/2V1D) but instead it has two VGA-ports. Very poor compared to G450!

                  I forgot to mention that my fried Mikko's big brother has Athlon/600 and G400 MAX and it is one of the fastest gaming machines I've ever seen (although my friend's friend has Geforce2 GTS).

                  I think I have made up my mind and I'll definitely buy a G450!

                    You mentioned linux.... if 3d is needed there now, toss the radeon and kyro. I havent seen any mention of support for kyro at all and the DRI driver for Radeon is curently very buggy. You also said your main task is actual work... I;f you;ve got the desk space dual head is unbelievable. The nvida drivers seem to be good under linux the g4x0 is useable and getting lots of work.
