  • HL 1.1.0.6 patch and graphics

Just installed the 1.1.0.6 patch and my graphics have lost all detail.
Gameplay and fps are OK but graphics look like an old comic book, even at 1024x768.
    Anyone else notice this?

Did you have an opengl.cfg before? Did you check if it's being execed properly? BTW, the new models have 512x512 textures I've heard. If you set gl_max_size to 512, models look more detailed

Got it all straightened out. Resolution problem, thank goodness!
          Thanks for the immediate responses.

BTW: what new models? I don't show any new ones from what I already have in the valve\models\player directories

You wont see a diff in the /players/models folder.
The changes have been made to the main pak files.
Most of the models have changed now.
A couple are very similar, or the same as they where, but there is a VERY noticable diff in the new sniper, HW, Soldier, and medic models...

Is there a limit to the gl_max_size ?
Does it depend on your video ram??

LOL....yep....that's not a gay exotic dancer, it's the new HWGuy model!

Models really look great, nice animations, but the game is a bit too fast for me on a modem. I can't kill anything.

what are the voodoo3's highest texture size? is is 512x512 or 256x256? my friends have been having slow downs since CS 1.1 and i was wondering if this was it. and if it is, is there a command or registry tweak you can do to put it down to 256x256 (if that is the max voodoo3 can handle)

Voodoo3's max texture size is 256x256. For CS, just use the gl_max_size option I mentioned and set it to 256. That's the default setting anyway.

how do i change this setting? within the opengl32.dll? or somewhere in the registry?
if you know, could you please give me a step-by-step walk through on how to do it

Simple. Go to the console in HL and type gl_max_size 256

                            we did that, thanks
but it didn't seem to help. i guess my friend just needs to get himself a new bitchin' system

Does increasing or decreasing the texture size affect the performance of other areas in the game???
I mean, increasing the max texture size might make the graphics better but does it come at a cost? Would the fps drop??
