I got myself thinking here! What could they add? The main benefit of the G450 was really the die-shrink and cost-savings because of it.

However, there is quite a lot they could add, whilst still not offering an 'FPS' solution - post if you have additions!

More 'head'! Yea - Tri/QuadHead? They could add this I suppose, but it'll kinda eat into their MMS series a bit.

More video stuff and improving the eTV!

Even higher resolutions on both outputs - such as having >2048x1536 on both (@85Hz of course )

And fixing a little annoyance I have with DH zoom - the pointer! Why do they have to enlarge the pointer? Can they not just enlarge the actual 'workspace' and have the pointer remain the same - cause it's kinda hard when zoomed right in to select pixels.

And of course, they could go with integrated chipsets and/or further cost reductions.

The last option is the most likely, improving their OEM and business chances, but a higher performance card must surely be on the books! Surely?

btw, I've just been searching Matrox' site for the press release when they announced they were going to leave the gamer market to concentrate on the business graphics side - anyone else find it? I was wanting to have a read over it again.

I don't think Matrox ever said that.. and that's probably what you want to tell the all of us, don't you?

Look, someone mentioned this, probably because he got this impression with the G450 release. However, it's just a personal opinion of someone who doesn't know anything... nothing more

I got sick of waiting, my G400 is crippling the 3D performance of the system (1GHz Athlon @ 1.3GHz). I've ordered a Radeon. I don't like ATI but they're the best option at the moment.

How long is it since the G400 came out, nearly two years? That's an eternity in 3D graphics cards, and nothing they've brought out since has really added to it.

And it's not as though I'd be able to use my RRG with a new Matrox card anyway, one less reason to wait.

It's a shame, I really like the G400, but it just can't cut it in games anymore.

Yea Frank - I missed your post

And bugblatt, I know what you mean, but the MAX still does 'cut' it in games, just that it's cutting it a little thin! And I'm not prepared to go into exile again over a few fps

I don't have the Max, is it really that much faster? Either way I wouldn't buy a Max now, it wouldn't last me very long.

I was quite surprised to find that my G400 ran Kingpin very well, but I really only play Unreal Tournament and it's not so hot in that.

But on my system I can probably get more than three times the performance from a Radeon, from the benchmarks I've seen I could comfortably run at 1280 in 32 bit colour.

Exile from the merry land of Murc you mean? I'm sure they'd still let you post in here if you bought a Radeon.

                    No, maybe not

I wouldn't say the Max 'cuts it' anymore.. unless you're talking about a dull butter knife

I have my MAX overclocked insanely on my gig Athlon system, and it is marginally acceptable now, and isn't gonna cut it for new games.

I really wish M would've made some progress, but instead all we've seen is the G450 (ugh) and speculation.

Hmmm...I just purchased Tribes 2 last week and considering it's a new game and is supposed to stress everything out, I guess you would be wrong because I play it fine on both my G450 and G400 Max. Sure I can't turn on all the features, but I don't have to make it ugly either

As allways, the voice of reason comes from Rags!

You said just what I wanted to say in this thread!

This is what the history of the G400 has been all about, not the Worlds fastest card or the one with the most eye-candy, but OVERALL it's been known to do MOST jobs PRETTY WELL!

I would not want to trade in the nice "chrispy" feel in 2D for extra frames in 3D, as 85-90% of my time in front of the PC is spent WORKING in 2D. On the other hand I have yet to buy a 3D game that would not run satisfactory on this card.

I have been more than satisfied. Thank you Big M. I estimate I can wait at least a year, maybe more, before needing to upgrade again.

                          Regards,

                          Jake

It's not like I don't try out other cards, either. I am ALWAYS getting my hands on new hardware, including video cards. I also have a customer who is insisting on a GF3, It should ship next month some time, and I will let you guys know how well/unwell it is.
